ION Audio Tailgater Portable PA System Speaker System for iPod Logo
Posted on Dec 20, 2010

I have an ION Tailgater which doesn't seem to be charging. The unit power doesn't have to be on whilst charging, but approximately five seconds after plugging in to charge, the charge light goes out, and it doesn't charge up. Any ideas

I just bought four units, 2 of them work fine but the other two have problem, but one of the unit did get charged up even without the charger light on. I switch on the unit, leave it plug in for a few days and the unit come back charged. I try with the other one, but it is not working.

take back panel off and make sure battery cables are connected to the board. 8 screws and 4 minutes later it works!

Will not run on battery. charged battery but will not hold charge.

Hi Martha, had a bit of a look around and noticed a few mentions of charging problems including the following - 'One of these units was apparently dead on arrival and on further investigation, it worked off mains but not from battery. The battery comes out from a flap underneath the unit, and on testing with a multimeter, it was under voltage, so must have been old stock. Despite 2 days of charging, no life, so I ordered a replacement battery (RITAR RT1250 or equivalent 12v battery) and it works fine. I also have a proper battery charger rather than use this unit's own charger, which charges the battery rapidly, but I think at the cost of battery lifespan. Given that I use this unit infrequently, this is fine, otherwise use the internal charger as normal. With the new battery, I've never managed to run out of battery.. it will keep going all day on a single charge.

The manual does state that if you don't charge the unit at least every 6 months, it may not charge.'

I know it's not exactly a resolution but hope it helps!

How to change the auxiliary input on an ion tailgater

Yo. This same thing happened to me. It sounds rudimentary, but I just superglued toothpicks onto the broken ends (obviously being sure not to get glue on the jack itself) and after waiting for them to dry, I just yanked them out by the toothpick. Worked like a charm. Good luck!

No sound on the tailgater

My tailgater is from the US, and I live in NZ. I changed the voltage to NZ and while the unit did work straight out of the box, after a month of me not using it, it now no longer has any volume. I have tried all the knobs but thats as far as my knowledge goes! Does anyone have any solutions I can try? thanks!

How to remove the lead acid battery

Very Easy!!! i just replaced mine yesterday, In the bottom of the tailgater there is a cover plate with 4 screws. Unscrew them and pull battery out, unplug the positive and negative cables attached to battery. Take Battery to an Electronic Store and ask for replacement battery. These batteries are also used in back up home alarm systems so they're pretty easy to find. i found mine at radioshack. Now to install, easier!!! plug in power and ground cables to battery, slip battey back into pocket screw back on plate, and charge for good 4-6hrs. and voila!!! you'll be bumpin in no time!!!!

I bought the ION Tailgater in USA but I live in Argentina where the input voltage is 220W. I uncovered the cap behind the device and the switch of 110-220 was there, my question is should this work??? (I'm...

You should have no problems.
I live in Australia, with 240 VAC, and we see this type of thing a lot.
Put the cap back on once you have switched it.
I have seen a computer power supply that was accidentally switched back to 120 as the switch had no cover.
