About all you can do is brace your ratchet and socket against the frame of the car, or even against a block of wood, and turn the key just a touch, to turn the engine over. You'll have to be careful of the engine rotation direction.

If the engine turns over while the socket is on the crankbolt, the bolt has to budge. You mean it won't turn over with the socket on it?

And, of course, make sure the ratchet is set to "loosen".

Ive tried bracing it against the frame and it wont budge. The ratchet is set the right way I think it stripped the ratchet gears out. I'm having a friend get a break over bar Monday to see if that will do the trick.

Break over bar braced against the ground did it. Break over was to long to brace against the frame.

Which direction do i turn the harmonic balancer bolt to remove it on a 1997 honda civic 1.6 liter

Hi:
The harmonic balancer bolt is a normal bolt with right hand threads, so you need to turn it counter-clockwise.
The hardest part of the process is to keep the crankshaft from turning. An impact wrench is the easiest way to go, but if you don't have one, you can use a large strap wrench or chain wrench to hold the harmonic pulley. I use a section of an old belt to protect the pulley.

Harmonic balancer removal

Hello:

I have removed several of the harmonic balancer bolts, and it is difficult to hold the harmonic balancer from spinning when you remove the bolt. The bolt is normal thread, and removal is counterclockwise. There is a Honda holding tool you can get, or possibly borrow from a autoparts store. I always use either an impact wrench or a long breaker bar, and hold the harmonic balancer from rotating with a chain style wrench. I use an old belt to keep from damaging the damper pulley.
Good luck!

Harmonic balancer pully bolt will not loosen

Hi,Try some pb-blaster bolt remover(you can get it at any automotive parts store,auto-zone and will have to sit awhile) but if it will still not break loose you will have to either use a impact wrench or heat it up with a plumbers propane bottle torch and remove it that way...good luck
