You need to download the drivers from the Compaq/HP WEB support/download page. Make sure you select your model laptop and the XP or Vista Windows version of the drivers you require and install them. Click on this link to download the drivers: - http://welcome.hp.com/country/au/en/cs/support.html
Click on Start and select Control Panel
Switch to Classic View, double click on Sound and Audio devices
You can check the sound option here.
If you are not able to get the sound in the laptop, the issue might be due to the corrupted audio drivers.

Click Support & Drivers 5. Select Download Drivers and type your product no. 6. Install each component Sound, VGA, Wireless from the list.
