On the tech insert found in a cavity under the cover of my Kenmore MHC, the F7 code means the inverter board ($90 - $130 street price Fall 2008) is bad and needs replacement. I am having this problem, and verified that the magnetron was not shorted to ground with an ohm meter. I verified with a volt meter that the magnetron was not getting any voltage applied across the cathode from the inverter board when the microwave is running ("WARNING"- don't do this test with the magnetron connected.) I have an inverter board on order.
The 665 the model number prefix means it's made by Whirlpool. F7 means it has a problem with the control board or keypad.
The first thing to try is a "hard reset". Unplug it from the power line for a minute, plug it back in, set the clock, then try again.
If it still has a problem, we repair these for customers nationwide with our guaranteed $39.95 service. If a new keypad were needed, that would add about $60 to the repair cost.

Be advised, the website this guy is promoting states that they will contact you with progress about the repair progress of your microwave display and that it should be shipped within a couple of weeks. That's a bald face lie. This guys cashes your check and then never gets back to you. Don't use his repair service.

SOURCE: I have an error code
Quoting another board:
Sears Kenmore Whirlpool LG 721.63683300. F-9
on this microwave IS inverter related.
There is a service tech
troubleshooting document stuffed in behind the control board cover
which has some testing procedures. My problem was the magnatron and
checked out bad with the help of this document. It would run for a few
seconds making clicks and then say F-9. It has been working great since
I replaced the magnatron PN 6324w1a002c.
f9 model 721.63764300
Kenmore
Elite 36 " over tne counter microwave is supplied by LG made by Gold
Star, made in China. It's main problem is the high voltage inverter
board supplyed by Sears Parts. If you get a F-9 code on your microwave
display screen and the micro quits it's probably this board. Reset the
machine by pulling the power plug and waiting an hour. If it is the
high voltage board is at fault it will probably fail after 45 seconds
of start up. This part is really hard to get at but is less than $100.
A qualified technician should be able to remove and repair this item in
less than hour. Some techs will quote you $300 labor, don't buy it, it
should cost a $100 or less. No need to buy another microwave.
