Loading ink cartridges

I bought a Cannon PIXMA iP1600 printer and the salesman sold me One (1) replacement CANNON 40-PG BLACK (B) Fine Cartridge, and One (1) replacement CANNON 41 CL- 41 Color (C) Fine Cartridge. These do not seem to fit in this printer, I am not mechanically challenged but any help would be appreciated. Was I sold the wrong ink cartridges?

Thanks,

I bought a new Cannon PIXMA MX320 with no ink cartridge, the manual says that it requires PG-210 & CL-211, while the cannon site says it works with the PG-510 and CL-511. so my question is do they both...

Hi,

Cannon cartidge numbers are quite confusing to say the least, but your printer requires PG-510 and CL-511, PG is black and CL colour.

The 210/211 is a non european number, but they are the same as CL-511 and PG-510.

Hope this helps.

My canon pixma iP 1800 does not recognise refilled colour cartridge. Can you suggest a fix?

  1. For the not-so-tech friendly, installing ink cartridges in printers can be messy and time-consuming. Although companies such as Canon are constantly trying to make designs more convenient for all users, there are still several tips that can help new printer owners install Canon PG-40 printer cartridges without mess or hassle.
  2. Compatibility
  3. Although many printer cartridges are specific to only a few models, the Canon PG-40 printer cartridge was designed for use with many models of the Canon Pixma and even some of the Canon fax machines. As of September 2010, the Canon PG-40 ink cartridge can be used with the Pixma iP1600 through iP1800 printers, the iP2600 printer, the MP140 through MP190 printers, the MP210 printer, the MP460 and 470 printers, the MX300 and MX310 printers and the JX200 and JX210P fax machines. This versatility allows users to stick with the same type of ink cartridge over the life of several printers and allows small business offices an opportunity to buy one type of cartridge for all office printing requirements.
  4. Refill
  5. Replacing printer cartridges can be expensive and, if it is possible, as it is with the Canon PG-40, refilling is a cheaper and more environmentally friendly option. Refill the PG-40 by gathering a 10 cubic centimeter syringe with a 1.5-inch needle, a pair of latex free gloves, an MIS Yellow Drill Tool, Scotch tape and black ink. Remove the label from the top of the cartridge and use the yellow drill tool to open the vent hole that was covered by the label. Next, load the syringe with 20 CCs of black ink and inject it into the ink hole (where ink leaves the cartridge for the page.) Make sure the needle reaches the bottom of the ink tank and then slowly inject the ink into the cartridge, stopping when the ink begins to well up at the needle insertion point. Now remove the needle and clean the top of the cartridge off to avoid color contamination. Put a small strip of Scotch tape over the vent hole and poke a small hole in the tape with a pin. Now reinsert the cartridge and run up to three cleaning cycles to calibrate the printer.
  6. Resetting the Ink Level
  7. While refilling ink in a PG-40 can save money, it can also cause difficulties when using the automatic ink level sensor. Reset this sensor by removing the cartridge after the printer has been calibrated and placing a thin strip of Scotch tape on the line of gold-colored leads nearest the ink hole on the bottom of the ink cartridge. Replace the cartridge and wait for the computer to display a warning about the ink cartridge being loaded incorrectly. Remove the cartridge and move the tape from the first to the second level of leads and replace the cartridge. When the PC displays a message that the cartridge is not recognized, remove the cartridge and replace without the tape. The ink level will be reset.
