I backed up my files from my WindowsXP desktop with my new 2tb external hard drive (WD Elements). It froze when I tried to reboot. Now I cannot get it to load up Windows XP. The closest I can get is part-way though it loading and then the screen goes dark. I am not very technically skilled, which is why I bought was was advertised as a simple-to-use solution to backing up my files. I expect more information will be needed, which I am more than happy to supply. I'd contact WD direct but it's the weekend and I've a backlog of work to catch up with. Thank you for your help.

SOURCE: I am having a problem copying large mkv files from

In order to fix this problem, be sure that the drive is formatted to NTSC. Mine was, however, when I started loading mp3 files to the drive first, it somehow got reformatted to FAT32. I don't know how, but it did. Copy your mkv files FIRST!

SOURCE: Elements by WD, AC Adapter Failed

There are replacement models for this 5V/1.5A power supply that the AD6008 uses.

One of them is made by a company called "Asian Power Devices" [APD] and their model number for the replacement for this particular unit is: DA-30C01.

I've seen them for sale on www.amazon.com for around $25.00.

I need more storage

That's kind of an ambiguous question, but I assume you mean more data storage on your computer. The absolute best and cheapest is an external hard drive. There is no installation required and all you need is a USB port on your computer. External hard drives come in a variety of storage capacities and prices. Your best bet is: WD 2TB Elements Portable External Hard Drive - USB 3.0 - WDBU6Y0020BBK-WESN by Western Digital For $59 from Amazon.com Talk about storage;a 2tb hard drive would store more than 100 full-length movies

Why can't I access any of the files on my WD Elements external hard drive?

If you have not reinstalled a new OS the drive should be seen after starting your unit.

Disconnect the USB drive and reboot your unit.

After the unit comes up, plug in the drive.

If the drive is new to the system, it will locate and load drivers.

Afterwards it should give the opium to view files.
It should also be seen in your device manager, under disk drive.

You should be able to go to prosperity's and see sharing opium's ect. ( Security ) Try to make your changes here

Hi . I have a 2TB WD (Western Digital) elements drive connected to my MacBook Pro. At first it seemed to go to sleep or unmount occasionally.-and caused programs to lock up. Now I can't get it to mount at...

Is it still under warranty?

Try connecting it to a different USB port on your computer.

Try connecting it to a USB port on a different computer.

If it still is not detected, then either exercise the warranty,
or disassemble the case, to find two major parts:
* a disk-drive
* a USB-to-disk-drive adapter

Disconnect the disk-drive and connect it as a "slave" disk-drive in some desktop computer, to see if it is recognized, i.e., if it was the USB-to-disk-drive adapter that has failed.

If it still is not recognized, then it is "dead". You could buy a similar disk-drive, install it into the enclosure, and thus create another external storage device.

Note that Western Digital's web-site has a "Customer Loyalty" program, even for out-of-warranty disk-drives, i.e., when you buy a new 2TB disk-drive from their web-site, quote the serial-number of your current W.D. product, and you get a discount on your purchase of another W.D. product.

My Mac will not store data on my wd external hard-drive

Take it back to where you bought it, and get a replacement,
or at least get them to demonstrate that it _does_ work, when connected to a Mac computer (not a Windows computer).
