The door does not lock. Can you buy a new lock

New remotes are available after market and they have instructions on how to program

Remove the lock and push it out from behind

Call the dealer ask a mechanic how to open door they likely have a trick and they want you to buy the parts so ask for an exploded view of door and lock you might be able to fish the window and yank the lock bar

you can buy brand new oem for about $20.00 online also can check ebay and other locations the old keys use to have a little tab in them and they would pop them out and give to owner dealers can do a vin cut on key but it is cheaper to replace the whole lock with new keys for the older cars

remove the door panel. remove all wiring and exit the wiring harness out of the door completely. next remove the bolts that attach the hinge to the door. remove the lock assy so that you can retrieve the key cylinder. if you buy a new door you'll need all the guts to the door. if you buy salvage yard all you may need is the lock cylinder

Door locks are fused and most are run from a relay. Don't buy anything until the lock system is properly diagnosed so you do not end up buying parts that are not needed and can't be returned

You can try this.
Switch off the washing machine at the mains, unplug it and leave it unplugged for about 5 minutes.
Plug it back in and see if it will work.
If it doesn't work you may need to buy a new door lock mechanism. The door lock has some electronics which can fail sometimes. You can buy the door lock on the internet for about twenty pounds and can do it yourself if you are fairly handy. There are also videos explaining how to do it on YouTube.

Kwikset locks are inexpensive because they do not have replaceable parts. Buy a new one.

By the time the lock breaks, it's probably time to get different keys, but if you have so many keys in the hands of people you cannot contact, or you have more than three other locks keyed alike, and you must have the new lock work with the same keys as before, the place where you buy new locks probably has someone who can rekey the new lock to your old keys. Kwikset also sells locks that you can rekey to other Kwikset keys yourself. They are more expensive than other locks of the same type, but could save money long term, especially if you find a need to rekey your locks a lot (lots of visitors, part-time tenants or roommates, your kids lose their keys a lot, etc.)

Take it back while you can. Buy a Schlage instead. I see more problems with the Powerbolt than any other brand on this site.

You need a special tool that has a hook at the end and is bent in the middle (T 10034). This will easily position a lock spring into door lock mechanism. I'd suggest you buy a set of 1/4" Torx bits so you can work with VW fasteners. They are affordable and available at any auto parts or go to Sears. You attach this bits to a 1/4" socket and a 1/4" ratchet for tight fitting bolts.

Remember, it will be difficult installing a new lock mechanism without the spring tool.
