The door of my Kitchen Aid Microwave YKCMS1555RSS wouldn't open because the plastic prods that push open the latch had worn down. The oven was otherwise functional. I inserted some plastic knobs to extend the prods and that did the trick. When I reassembled the oven, the timer and keypad work and the internal light comes on, but no microwave action, turntable rotation or fan.

Could you help me to understand a little better? The heads are only passing through the three holes in the control unit and pushing the sub assembly lever (7) to open the oven. Are you saying that they are now too long and that the oven thinks it's open?

  • tellstar Jul 02, 2008

The problem I had was that the door open button (#2) made contact with the door open lever (#7) but the three prods had worn down to the point that they no longer pushed the door open lever enough to release the latches. The lever face is not worn at all. The oven was still operational but I couldn't open the door.

I inserted three tiny rubber knobs, one in each prod (they're hollow shafts) to extend the shafts about 1/4" so the door open lever would function. I had to remove cables from three sockets, which I photographed prior to disassembly so there would beno doubt about how they were to be reassembled. When I reassembled the microwave, I had no turntable, fans or microwave activity, although the control panel worked fully.

I will remove the rubber knobs, to see if the microwave works again without them.

  • tellstar Jul 02, 2008

I removed the buttons and you were correct. They pushed the latch about 1/32nd of an inch too far and it registered the door as open. I had to order a new latch from 1,000 miles away but trimmed the rubber knobs in the meantime.

    Thank you!

The door latch heads (prods) are not making proper contact with the door switches, so it will not work right.

The latch heads need to be replaced.

You can order parts for this Canadian model here.

Sorry, but I misunderstood what you were saying before, so please disregard my first message.

I would say that you are correct when you now say "they are now too long and that the oven thinks it's open".

It looks like you need ref # 2, the door open button.

But when there's a hard failure, it's usually ref # 7, the door open lever. Is the lever face worn?

Door will not close without slamming

Possible causes - door switch, or door switch assembly out of adjustment; plastic latch guides on door switches worn; door hinge worn, causing door to be out of alignment. If it's the last one, the unit needs to be checked for microwave radiation.

How to repair kitchen aid door springs

proceed according and fix it. God bless you

  1. Open leverCheck your microwave lever to determine if it is damaged. If it is broken, simply replace the lever to get your microwave door fully functional again.
  2. Door springResponsible for keeping downward pressure on the door hook, the microwave door spring can begin to malfunction. If this part is broken and prevents you from opening your microwave door, replacement is necessary.
  3. Door latchOne reason your microwave door may not open properly is a broken door latch. Located inside the microwave, the door latch manipulates the door hook to keep the door closed for safety and top performance. If broken, the door could become stuck in the locked position.
  4. Door hookIf your microwave door will not release properly, the door hook could be damaged. Located inside the door, the door hook is made of plastic and prone to breakage with extended use or age. As this part is unable to be repaired, the only option is to replace it.
  5. Button or button springIf the microwave door will not open, it could be an internal failure of the button or button spring. If it is determined that either of these parts is the source, both are replaceable and it is recommended that they be installed at the same time.
  6. Handle actuatorIf the microwave door will not open the plastic handle actuator could be broken. Connected between the door button and the door latch assembly, this plastic part could become damaged and brittle over time, which makes breaking inevitable. If this occurs, replace the handle actuator to get your microwave fully functional again.

NEFF H5430NOGB Integrated oven - door won't close, the ;hooks on the door itself seem to have gone loose so they ill not clikc inot place when trying ot close, door just flops open.Amy ideas???

I had this problem. The spring inside the door which pushes the the latches down had broken (plastic peg had broken off).

I managed to fix it by attaching the broken end of the spring to the door frame using a small nylon cable tie using the small hole in the plastic fingers which was already there. Note you need to remove the inside door surround.

See the following link to remove the plastic cover on the door

http://www.fixya.com/support/t1267577-replace_front_glass_door_neff_microwave

I had an interim solution which was to tie some thin string to the latch and feed it under the door and pull on the string when closing the door (when it should be latching.

The closed door doesn't always hit the limit switches

I strongly suggest that you do not attempt to adjust the hinges.

The door switch mounts are either cracked or need to be adjusted.

Door switch mount trouble is usually caused by slamming the door.

This may be a little more info that you need and it's from a Sharp service manual, but the general principles apply:

1. Disconnect the power supply cord, and then remove outer case.

2. Open the door and block it open.

3. Discharge high voltage capacitor.

If the door sensing switch, secondary interlock switch and monitor switch do not operate properly due to a misadjustment, the following adjustment should be made.

4. Loosen the two (2) screws holding latch hook to the oven cavity front flange.

5. With door closed, adjust latch hook by moving it back and forth, and up and down. In and out play of the door allowed by the upper and lower position of the latch hook should be less than 0.5mm. The vertical position of the latch hook should be adjusted so that the door sensing switch
and secondary interlock switch are activated with the door closed. The horizontal position of the latch hook should be adjusted so that the plunger of the monitor switch is pressed with the door closed.

6. Secure the screws with washers firmly.

7. Check the operation of all switches. If each switch has not activated with the door closed, loosen screw and adjust the latch hook position.

After adjustment, check the following.

1. In and out play of door remains less than 0.5mm when in the latched position. First check upper position of latch hook, pushing and pulling upper portion of door toward the oven face. Then check lower portion of the latch Figure C-3. Latch Switch Adjustments hook, pushing and pulling upper portion of door toward the oven face. Both results (play in the door) should be less than 0.5mm.

2. The door sensing switch and secondary interlock switch interrupt the circuit before the door can be opened.

3. Monitor switch contacts close when door is opened.

4. Re-install outer case and check for microwave leakage around door with an approved microwave survey meter.

You need to trace the power feeding the high voltage transfomer. Because the table doesn't turn, it implies that a door switch or safety interlock is the problem.

Directions to remove and open door panel to repair safety door latch.

You don't have to remove door to remove panel. Panel is held in by an outer plastic retainer which can be removed by carefully prying with a small screwdriver. I can be replaced by pushing it back in place after repair is completed. If you cannot open door from the outside, remove cover and you can see latches. Pry up on latch which will let door open.
