My Aprilaire 700 humidifier isn't turning off from the thermostat. I changed the circuit board and the fan motor and solenoid work when I short out the circuit board. So what else could be the problem?
Unless you have it wired wrong the two small wires going to the humidifier where do they connect? Usually they send a transformer with it did you use this? It sounds like it is just miswired. The low voltage wiring off the humidistat should be on W and C on the circ. board at the furnace. If you have it on R and C then it will power it constantly regardless if the heat is running or not. W is only energized on a call for heat which is typically when you want that type of humidifier to run
Hello, check to see if you have 24 volts to the solenoid valve when the blower motor is on, if you do the solenoid valve is bad if not chevk to see where the voltage stops. Also, since tnis is a fan powered humidifier, the relay that energizes the fan could be bad aswell.
Hello, apply power directly from transformer to solenoid valve, if it does not come and let water through the solenoid valve than replace solenoid valve
Check for voltaged at the solenoid valve. This will either be a 24 volt or 110 volt solenoid valve. Confirm power into the unit 110 volts. If you have power into the unit and no voltaged at the solenoid valve on a call for humidification at the humidistat than the circuit board or the step down transfgormer has failed.. If you do have voltage at the solenid valve than the valve has failed.
It appears your Aprilaire model 700 is wired to only operate when your HVAC fan is operated by your thermostat. Your HVAC installer can wire the humidifier control to operate the humidifier during a heat call, fan call or to turn on the fan when there is a need for humidification. Please contact your HVAC installer to have them change the wiring.

if you mean your aprilaire humidifier isn't working then open the cover and remove the 4 screws on the fan motor mount inside and check for voltage at the transformer input 120 volts and output 25.5 volts a.c., then check the control board wherever you have it located on the furnace or upstairs and make sure yhe humidity level is set high enough to make the unit run(you will hear the water solenoid click on the furnace below the aprilaire unitwhere the water line is if its working correctly),then check the humidistat on the outside of the building as they can go bad
A simple check you can perform on your aprilaire 760 is the following:
1) locate the two brown wires coming out of the 760 (these wires will be wired to tell the 760 to turn on when the hvac bower is on and the humidistat is calling for moisture).
2) temprarily disconnect the two brown wires from the external wiring and then short the wires together. All you're doing here is bypassing the your thermostat and bower-on indicator.
With the 70 unit plugged in to the wall outlet and the two brown wires connected together, both the fan and the solenoid valve (water inlet valve) should both be activated.
A bad circuit board should not make any noises. A bad solenoid valve could make a loud buzzing noise. If the noise is a squealing noise then you have defective bearings in the blower motor.
If you disconnect the low voltage wiring from the solenoid valve and you still hear the noise, then its not the solenoid valve.
if humidifier was wired into thermostat circuit for power instead of seperate transformer , this can happen. you need to see if you voltage going to the solenoid valve. if you do , and it isn't opening, the valve is bad . this is assuming that it is using a # 50 relay to come on only when the fan runs . . make sure the water valve is open
