I downloaded the zip files from olympus and ran them because my vn-4100pc was not being registered by the digital wave player. That didn't solve the problem though: I still can't get the recorder to register. I am NOT computer savvy--PLEASE HELP!!! Thanks!
Well, I too have done the aforementioned things, and I still can't get my vn-4100pc to register. Anyone?
I had the same problem, but have resolved it by enabling USB access to VN-4100PC on Windows XP in a Sun VirtualBox on a Vista 64-bit host. In order to do this, you will need to have the recorder connected to the PC when you enable the USB access.
I am very relieved to have found this solution, as the Digital Voice Recorder is a wonderfully convenient device.
Install the drivers located on the cd that comes with the device. To do this, put in the cd, connect the device, and wait for windows to ask you if you want to install the drivers. It will look for them on the cd and may come up with an error message, but ignore it as the drivers are valid and trustable on the cd. It should work once this is done.

I have Windows Vista 64-bit and I talked to an Olympus employee and they told me there is currently no compatible driver for the Olympus VN-4100 PC digital voice recorder. The update on the olympus website should install a driver for windows vista 32-bit.
I have tried and tried as well to get the DigitalWavePlayer to work. I keep getting an error which requires me to close the program. I cannot even get to the folders to start the download, although I can see them displayed in the background of the error message.
