SOURCE: Z4M is printing fine white lines in the barcode

As the label comes out of the printer...it sounds like your printing in picket fence mode (vertical bars). You most likely have 1 or more pixels out on the printhead...try cleaning first...if that fails... you will have to replace the printhead.

Hello,
there are several ways to use the scanner: you can have an application directly with scanner drivers implemented. Or you can install the application DataWedge provided by the manufacturer.
The DataWedge application will activate the scanner and the decoded barcode is sent as usual keypad input to the system. The application is running in background, so you can have your favourite simple application in foreground and scan data directly.
To download the DataWedge application please go to support.symbol.com website and search for DataWedge, or use this direct link http://support.symbol.com/support/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=12685

Hello, I am with Motorola and have a MC5590. The scanner function does not appear to be working. I have version 6.5. Do you have an instruction set that can test the functionality of the scanner? Thank...

Hello Glenn,
to test the scanner I would suggest to download and install the Datawedge application. It is an desktop installation. As you will connect your MC55 to the Desktop per Active Sync the application will be installed also to your MC55.

The DataWedge aplication will activate the scanner and the decoded barcode is sent as usual keypad input to the system. The application is running in background, if you scan a barcode a pop-up window will come up. Or if another application is running it will send the input to the application.

The scanner will not scan any barcodes. The red light lights up but nothing ever happens

The barcode is probably not enabled in factory settings. I would propose to use the manufacturers software called DataWedge, provided at support.symbol.com and check again. If you still have no luck try to find out which kind of barcode is it, by the producer and enable it in the settings of the software. Or better just select the option "Enable All" in the Basic configuration of DataWedge

I have third party software to initiate scanner functions on the Motorola but they do not work. In fact I cannot even scan without using the "Rapid Deployment Client" provided with the hardware. How do I...

DataWedge is an Application provided by Symbol/Motorola to enable the scanning module also for application without the driver. Scanned barcode is sent like an usual keyboard input.
There can be just one active application using the barcode scanner. If you are running DataWedge, you would need to stop it before starting any other application with built-in scanner drivers.
To stop DataWedge just click on the barcode icon in a right down corner and select - Disable DataWedge

Datawedge blocks the camera

The camera and scanner on the MC55xx share the same interrupt. While Datawedge 3.x is running, it has control of both devices and causes the behavior you're seeing. If you stop Datawedge before starting up the camera app (for example), it'll work just fine.

Why Motorola thought interrupt sharing for two commonly used hardware devices is a good idea, I'll never know.
