B & S 12kw home generator - propane gas type New printed circuit board installed because old one would not start the generator. Problem with new board, generator starts, runs and transfers the power to the home. The exerciser is set on the generator. Generator continues to run after 20 minutes. The only way to stop generator is to turn the switch to off. How do I remedy this problem?

Need to change the flux capacitor.

These type of gens have a low oil shutoff. Check the oil. Always have spare spark plugs, a cheap fix. My gen always wanted a new plug every year. Look to see if it has a fuel filter.

Is the outside air temp cold. These generators will backfire if it is real cold and if the propane pressure is low. It is suppose to be 11 to 12 inches of water colume at the generator fuel input. drygwals

throttle motor or governer board. or control board. your gas line could be to small. check the pressure while its cranking to see if it drops. watch the throttle to see if its moving while trying to crank the generator

Typically caused by the fuel line (LP or Natural Gas) having a lot of air in it. Was your generator just installed, or was there any work done to the gas line of the building / generator? Consult local gas contractor / propane dealer / gas company for assistance in purging the fuel line.

A low battery can also cause this as well as the generator is not able to come up to starting speed quick enough. Try placing a stand alone battery charger on the generator and charge the battery. Also check the air filter as well.

OverCrank condition occurs when generator tries to start itself, or be manually started, and the starter spends too much time turning.

Your gas pressure is too low and you may not have a large enough supply pipe. You need at least 10 inches of water column with the engine running to operate an LP vapor fueled engine. Because the engine is starving for fuel, its governor opens the throttle to WOT (so it goes to high revs) but there isn't any fuel to make horsepower with so the output voltage falls and the undervoltage alarm trips.
