Amana XRSS287BB side by side fridge freezer (3 years old)

The evaporator fan stops working and fridge and freezer lose temperature.
The compressor starts running and a clicking noise comes from the top right hand side of the freezer (ice dept) and the fan does not come on.
The low temperature warning lights and alarm actuate and all the food in the freezer has defrosted!!
The freezer seems to be going into auto defrost irregularly.
Can you tell me what the problem is?

Our Amanda refrigerator/freezer has been making noises on and off (buzzing) over the past two months, in particular the bottom freezer. Today everything started to melt and the buzzing is frequent every...

It sounds like your evaporator fan motor, they last about 4-5 years. Try to see if the buzzing noise comes from the motor, usually in the freezer compartment behind a vented cover plate

The freezer is usually cooled by the compressor, the fridge is then cooled by an evaporator fan motor ($30). If this fan seizes or slows down then the fridge warms up (it sometimes starts squealing before this happens). It could be that your drain hose is clogged or frozen. Maybe the temperature adjuster go bumped.

If you think it is the evaporator fan motor:
Check to be sure you can get a replacement fan first, they last about 4 - 5 years. Can get from a parts supplier or electric motor company.
UNPLUG fridge. Located usually in top of freezer behind a vented cover plate. Remove cover, remove screws holding fan in, may have to cut wires. Replace with new motor, make sure the fan pushes air into the freezer area and doesn't spin backward drawing air from the freezer area.

Amana 20 - 20 years old. Freezer thawing - refreezing. Fan running very hot in the compressor arae at the bottom. Drip pan full of water - never saw that before.

IT SOUNDS LIKE YOU HAVE DEFINITE ISSUE WITH YOUR COMPRESSOR, IT MAY BE CONSTANTLY RUNNING OR RUNNING TOO OFTEN, THIS WOULD CAUSE THE LARGE AMOUNT OF HEAT COMING FORM THE BOTTOM. IF YOUR COMPRESSOR IS RUNNING TOO MUCH YOU WILL ALSO GET AN EXCESS AMOUNT OF WATER EVAPORATING DUE TO CONDENSATION ON THE EVAPORATOR COILS THEREFORE FILLING UP YOUR DRAIN PAN THAT MUCH QUICKER. YOUR FRIDGES COMPRESSOR MAY BE ON THE WAY OUT BUT YOUR FRIDGE SOUNDS LIKE IT'S WORKING THE WAY IT SHOULD BE.HOPE THIS HELPS

THANKS

Compressor & Evap. Fan both work for 12 hours then evap stops

I believe that because defrost is done by the mother control board this is why this is happening the part of the board that controls defrost is malfunctioning and the only way to resolve the problem is to replace the mother board part number WR55X10656 You can find the replacement board at these places below. Whirlpool Side By SIde Refrigerator Freezer stopped cooling

5 reasons for fridge and/or freezer getting warm: 1- the evaporator coils are icing up and won?t let air circulate. 2- the evaporator fan is not working to circulate air. 3- there is no refrigerant in the system. 4- no power to fridge or compressor. 5- the condenser coils have no air circulation check under the fridge behind the vent. if it is too dusty or the fan isn?t working, it is not getting enough airflow to cool down. replace fan and/or vacuum out the dust. if there is no power to the fridge, the light will be off. if the compressor is not running, there is a defrost timer that cuts the power temporarily to the compressor to melt ice on the coils. it?s located under the fridge behind the bottom vent. If the timer is off and the compressor is not going, the compressor or the main board is bad and needs replacing. there is also a temperature sensor on the evaporator coils that tells the defrost coil to turn on and when to turn off. if the defrost timer is on but the coil is not heating up, replace the sensor. if it still won?t heat up, it?s the timer or the coil. the easiest way to tell if there is no refrigerant- the freezer wall is warm and the compressor is loud. if there is no refrigerant, it may be more cost effective to replace the fridge. if you feel no air coming from the freezer vent, the fan needs replacing. If you feel air moving in the freezer but not the fridge, the channel from freezer to fridge is blocked. if the freezer has air and the rear freezer wall has frost on it, the evaporator coils are iced up and need defrosting. causes: 1. low refrigerant 2. no fan 3. too much humid air in fridge/freezer due to door open or bad door seals 4. the condensate drain tube is clogged if the seal around the door is ripped or not completely sealing, or there is condensation at the bottom or the walls of the fridge, replace the seal(s). no air, no fan. Replace if the refrigerant is low, it just needs a top off. but you need to be certified by the epa to move refrigerant, so get a professional. defrost solutions: unplug the fridge. remove the wall of the freezer that is frosted/icing up. use a hair dryer to melt the ice. do not get too close. you will see a drain under the evaporator coil. make sure it is not blocked. the water should run freely to a condensate pan under the fridge that evaporates the condensation with the hot line from the compressor. once the coil is free of ice, frost, and water, replace the panel and repair any of the problems that caused the icing up. plug the fridge in and turn it on. If it frosts up within a week, there is still an issue that not been taken care of.

Amana Side by Side, freezer not cooling adequately

first make sure the fridge has not frozen over if there is ice on the walls it will screw the system that determines how cold it is up. if this is the case empty the fridge unplug and use a hair dryer to carefully speed up the thawing process. usually this happens during warm and humid seasons.

if this is not the case then see below and you might need a professional appliance service to perform the below unless you are fairly skilled

The temperature control thermostat directs voltage to the compressor, evaporator fan motor, and condenser fan motor (if applicable). If the temperature control thermostat is not working properly, it may cause the refrigerant system to run longer than necessary. As a result, the refrigerator will be too cold. To determine if the thermostat is defective, rotate the thermostat from the lowest setting to the highest setting and listen for a click. If the thermostat clicks, it is not likely defective. If the thermostat does not click, use a multimeter to test the thermostat for continuity. If the temperature control thermostat does not have continuity at any setting, replace it.
The thermistor monitors the air temperature and sends the temperature reading to the control board. The control board then regulates power to the compressor and evaporator fan based on the thermistor readings. If the thermistor is defective, the compressor and evaporator fan may run too frequently. As a result, the refrigerator will be too cool. To determine if the thermistor is defective, test it with a multimeter. The thermistor resistance should change in conjunction with the refrigerator temperature. If the thermistor resistance does not change, or the thermistor does not have continuity, replace the thermistor.

Refrigerator will not get cold, but freezer works

Do you know if the compressor in the back is running? If you can check that out get back to me and we can go from there. Most times if the fan in the freezer is running the defrost timer is ok.
