Philips 27 inch TV - Model # 27PT543S37A - Keeps going off!

SYMPTOM:
Clicks and turns off after turning on set when cold. Have to turn on and off several times to work, or keep changing channels, right side of screen is black for a while.
PROBLEM: It is almost always a bad transistor and a bad capacitor. (about $0.70 in parts)
SOLUTION:
This repair is fairly straightforward. You will need a soldering iron, a solder ******, and a small torx bit. Unplug the set. Lay the TV on the floor, screen down. Remove the torx screws holding the rear cover on. There should be 10, (don’t forget the 2 by the input panel). You will see 2 circuit boards, the one of interest is the large one near the bottom of the set. This board has a retainer clip on each side that needs to be pulled out to allow the circuit board to slide out. Slide the board out about 5-6 inches. You might need to support the board so it doesn’t slide back down into the TV set. This circuit board should have numbers by each of the components. You want to look for 7461 (transistor) and 2455 (capacitor). They are located right next to each other near the center of the board. The transistor will usually overheat and discolor the circuit board immediately around it. Warm up the soldering iron and get the solder ****** ready. Heat up the solder joint while removing excess solder with the ******. Once the transistor and capacitor are free, check the numbers on each. The capacitor (round cylinder) should have “47uf” on it. The transistor should have “C33725” on it. You can order these parts from Digi-Key (google it) for about $2.50 including shipping if you use USPS option. The part numbers are: 493-1060-ND for the capacitor and BC33725-ND for the transistor. Once you get your parts, solder them in and check TV operation. It should work as it did before. This repair can be done by anyone familiar with a soldering iron in about 30-45 minutes their first time. Good Luck!!

The same tv as well and it goes on then a few seconds later the picture goes off. It has to be a defect in this model. We should contact the mfg.

Solution #6 is the right solution. I did this repair. I'll share some stuff he left out. If you can still get the TV to work, and it's not at complete failure, the capacitor at 2455 is the only thing that needs to be replaced.

I got the capacitor at Radio Shack, and they still sell them. You want a radial lead 47microfard or 47uf 35v polarized capacitor. The one I bought was mostly blue with a thin black strip in line with one of the leads. I'm not electrical in anyway so I spend a lot of time trying to figure out what this meant.

The capacitor in the TV was mostly black with a grey strip. I oriented my mostly blue one so that it's black stip was in line with the existing one's grey strip during replacement.

It was $1.49 in parts and less than a penny in solder. The hardest part was removing all the screws. You need an allen wrench to do do it.

I have same exact TV with same exact problem..TV is less than 3 yrs old .anybody find out the solution?

Hello there, I'm having a major problem with my TV, I have called all of the local TV repair shops and they all are the same, they want money money money before they will even speak with me about the problem I'm having. This is the only TV in my entire household for a family of 4 and we desperately need the TV in working condition for our kids. I don't want to have to put out $500 for another set if I don't absolutely have to.

The Problem...

About 3-4 months ago the TV when turned on, the picture would slowly come into view and be very scrambled and before the picture would come into complete view the TV power would shut itself off, but the power light would remain on. You can hear the "Click" noise when it would shut itself off.

2-3 seconds after it 'shut itself off' then the TV would make the "Click" noise (The same noise it makes when you first turn it on), it would make the "Click" noise over and over and over again but nothing would happen. So i would turn it off and on again and change the channel rapidly until after 2-3 minutes it would come into view and work.

So we decided to leave the TV on 24 hours a day. Then today we awoke and it was off and making the "clicking" noise over and over and over again but with no picture or sound. Now it wont even turn on/off it just sits there and goes "Click, Click Click Click" and doesn't do anything.

I described the problem as best as I can. Here is the TV information and specifications...

Now that I typed the model number there are threads everywhere people saying the same issue exactly as me, I will read them but please someone tell me is there anything I can do...
Can anyone explain exactly what is wrong with the Tv and why it's doing this?

Also, what should I expect to pay to repair it?

Any information or help would be appreciated very much.

I have a philips tv and suddenly one day by mistake i turned on the security level from low to high from settings. i dont have the service remote so what will i do? please hlp me out

THE SIMPLE ANSWER:

I have the same tv... bought about 4 years ago Phillips 27" Tube Tv. When I turn it on after it has been off for a while it comes on for about 3-15 seconds and then shuts off.

SOLUTION:
To keep your TV on and running just start surfing throught the channels. Sometimes I only have to change the channel 10 times and it will stay on for good. Sometimes I have to go through 50 channels to get it to stay on... I am going to be smashing this TV into small pieces very soon. LOL if only I could still buy a picture tube tv, nowadays its LCD or nothing...

Well, this issue with the TV became progressively worse, and now it is residing in the junkyard.

Ditto - exact same problem - probably the same model tv as well. great, huh? mine was a xmas gift...philips should definately recall these.
