connect the audio out of the tv to any input of your surround reciever. ou can use optical out from tv or analog out. then select that input on the reciever. you can go into tv menue and turn off the speakers in the tv. Recommended.

How do I connect to an external speaker, for better output from my LG LCD 42 inch?

It sounds like you are wanting better sound on your home theater.

If this is the case, you can invest in a surround sound receiver and run audio from your sources to the receiver (rather than to the tv).

Basically you would hook your cable/satellite, dvd/bluray, and other items into the surround sound receiver using HDMI, Optical, or RCA-style Stereo wiring.

Once this is done, you can run a single HDMI from your surround sound to your television for the crisp awesome video that your LCD will produce!

If you are looking to run an external speaker directly from your television, it has to be powered on its own, as the television's output audio isnt that strong.

In essence what you would be purchasing is a very wide bar (that is a speaker) that is powered, and has an audio processor built right in!

These are the solutions that I would recommend. If you appreciate them, please vote!

I have a 42 inch sanyo tv I am trying to hook up saround sound or just extra speakers

Extra speakers without having the external speaker jacks in the rear is definitely a NO NO. The surround sound is used by connecting the RCA jacks from the TV that say Audio Out to the surround sound audio input on the receiver.. The RCA cables are cheap, you can get them at Home Depot ect....

I have a 42 inch Insignia plasma tv. I only hook

If you have the audio cables hook up correctly to where the video cable from DVD is connected to, it should be RED and WHITE wires for audio. Then go to on screen audio setup menu to see if the speakers is turn off in the menu. Also try hooking up the powered PC speakers to the AUDIO LINE out RCA jacks to see if you get the sound OK there.

No audio from cable through surround sound

you have to go to the setup for the TV audio and change it to audio out, not speakers.

Lcd speakers

I suggest to unplug surround and sub woofer so you will get sound from front speakers only.

Bose cine mate speakers

No it won't be like surround sound, but you'll have the next best thing: a nice, powerful, natural Hi-Fi sound. I have a 46 inch 1080p Sony connected to a Sony Blu-Ray and Bose Cinemate Speakers. No complicated rear speakers wiring, no awkward center speaker to hide. The only drawback is that Bose doesn't have (yet) a code to operate the Blu-ray player with the Cinemate remote control.

Hope this helps to make your decision.
