If you are on Cingular/AT&T, you can go to aT&T's website to fill out a form and get the SIM unlock code for yourself. I dont know about the other carriers. Remember some carriers may NOT use SIM cards.

Hi
First you will need to leave your phone on with the SIM card inside for a couple of hours until that message dissapears, then you can order the 8 Digit Subsidy password on our website www.cellunlock.net and the code will be emailed to you the same day.

The service provider does have access to the unlock codes for the phones. There are companies and programs that you can get that will give you the code, but these charge a fee usually. Try this, tell them you are traveling to another country and want to use a local sim card. Since this is a prepaid phone they should give you the unlock code anyway, you paid full price for the phone and they are legally obligated to provide you with it in most cases.
