I am trying to transfer video from my JVC Everio G harddisk camcorder to the Sony DVDirect. my wires are all correctly in, I get the video to tape but no SOUND. please help??
Do both cameras have a dv connection to them?
The only way that its supposed to work is by connecting the DV cable to each system. Your Hard Drive camcorder will play it back while your DV recorder records the tape. It will also synchronize it as well.
What is the model number of your Sony camcorder?
It could be that the DV port on the Sony is output only. The owners manual should give us the answer.
There is another option too if this doesn't work.
Does your Sony DV have a mic input jack?
The cactus thing is usb. Do both cameras have a usb port?
If the DV Camcorder doesn't have a mic input into it, chances are it will only record the video with no sound. That way you know the audio input is working. The audio connections you are using the camera now are for output only.
I don't know if both USB ports can be used to two way communication. If they can be, then it will work but if the DV camcorder is USB output only, then it won't work.
I won't know the answer unitl I look at the manuals this afternoon.
You can use a program like Pinnacle Studio. Once you plug your camera in Studio will load up and capture your video to hard drive. All you have to do add a menu into the timeline. Drag and drop the video to the time line and burn to DVD.

I am using a red, white, and yellow tipped cable that goes directly into the sony dvdirect, and the other end is in the JVC camera.
I also was told by the guys at best buy to purchase the dynex mini memory card reader/writer and use the wire that comes with it, when I tried it the dvdirect reads "no imput signal" thanks so much for your help
the camcorder is actually a jvc everio G MG21U and the DVdirect recorder is a sony VRD-MC3. as for the ports i'm not really sure what you call them. the camera has an AV port, right next to that is a port that looks like a cactus, thx
yes, the dv burner and the jvc camera have a usb port
i think you are absolutely correct, since i got the video to record and not the sound thx so much, any ideas for how else to download the video to a dvd
