When using the carpet shampoo system and moving the Kirby back and forth, only a narrow stream of water with very little foam comes out onto the carpet. I have the suds control valve all the way to the left but no luck. No suds is dispensed in the tray when the Kirby is pulled backwards. I used a whole tank of shampoo and didn't even clean a 9x10 carpet. Any ideas? Thanks a million. I am borrowing my friend's Kirby and she is not home to ask!

I KNOW THIS IS AN OLD POST BUT MANY PEOPLE MIGHT STILL FIND THESE ANSWERS USEFUL. I CAN ATTEST TO THE FACT THAT YOU NEED TO USE THE KIRBY SHAMPOO. I TRIED TO SAVE MONEY AND USE OTHER BRANDS BUT IT NEVER WORKED AND WOULD DISPENSE MOSTLY LIQUID INSTEAD OF FOAM. IF YOU USE THE KIRBY BRAND, YOUR SHAMPOO SHOULD FOAM AS IT IS DISPENSED. GO SLOWLY AS THE PREVIOUS RESPONSE SUGGESTS. ANOTHER THING... I WOULD SUGGEST RAISING THE HEIGHT A LITTLE SO THAT IT IS NOT TOO CLOSE TO THE FLOOR.
MY FIRST QUESTION IS WHAT BRAND OF SHAMPOO ARE YOU USING??? KIRBY IS NOTED FOR REQUIRING ONLY, KIRBY SHAMPOO. PART OF THE REASON IS THAT THEY HAVE A UNIQUE FORMULA THAT WORKS SPECIFICALLY WITH THE KIRBY.
THE OTHER POSSIBILITY IS THE DISPENSER IS PLUGGED AND NEEDS A REAL GOOD CLEANING. ALSO, WHEN APPLYING THE FOAM TO THE CARPET, YOU NEED TO GO REALLY, REALLY SLOW.
THE NARROW BAND OF SUDS DOES INDICATE YOU MAY BE MOVING THE DISPENSER TOO FAST. GOOD LUCK.
