Most of the time you can use a higher series as long as the first three numbers ar the same. For example, you can replace a STK392-560 with a STK392-570. But you cannot go down in series.
I hope this helps,

At times the screen becomes double

When you say "double" do you mean you see the colors somewhat seperated or see maybe blue or red outlines around objects? Does the screen distort?

If so then:
Your Convergence ICs are likely failing or it is a bad solder joint related to that area. It is very common on rear projections. The solution is to replace the STK chips, check fuses and the resistors next to the STK chips. Replace as necessary and re-align via the service menu. It is about a $300 repair at a tv service center. You will need the service manual if you decide to do this yourself.

Try This:
When you notice the symptons Use this simple test to verify.
Go to the users menu on the tv.
Look for the converge option probably under setup or video setting. Converge is short for convergence to align the red and blue colors to the green color.

If you cannot move the red either horizontal or vertical, then the STK chip has failed for red section.
If you cannot move the blue either horizontal or vertical, then the STK chip has failed for the blue section.

If you can move both in each direction then the problem is something else.

Note if one STK chip fails, you replace both regardless. There may only be one STK chip in this set. If there are two, they will be right next to each other.

Everything has red highlights. but adjusting with the remote does not change things to correct the problem?

Go into the menu with your remote a click on picture next scroll down to convergence and click on it. Follow the on screen instructions on how align or converge the diffrent color lines togeather. It will usually have a white cross on the the screen. This should solve your problems if not have a tech replace the 2 convergence chips in the back of you set

Hitachi convergence seems to be bad, but all resistors check in spec's can you check ic's the cross hach lines will move in all directions but some are bent

I know this set very well, have fixed hundreds of Hitachi sets with convergence problems--

first--did you just go into the customer menu?

There are two ways to get into the tech convergence mode on most of these sets---if the set has "MAGIC FOCUS" PRESS the button the front panel---while magic focus is running press magic focus again --if STOP is displayed on the screen press either RECALL OR STATUS BUTTON ON THE REMOTE--set will go to the tech convergence mode--take a good look there ---if red or blue is skewed most likely one or both of the 2 STK-392-110 CHIPS THIS SET USES IS BAD--NO WAY TO TEST THEM--IF RESISTORS ARE ALL GOOD--you have to replace BOTH chips to see if one is your problem.

You can also get into the tech convergence mode by removing the front speaker grill and inspection plate behind it----there is a tiny micro switch on the front of the board (little blue button) with something not metal--touch it with the set on and you will be in the convergence mode.

I presume you know how to navigate with the remote in this mode 2,4,6.8 to move--ant to select blue and 0 to select red---enter button will stop blinking cursor and you use the ARROW CURSORS to adjust---DO NOT TOUCH ANY OTHER BUTTONS---

What you are looking for is will the "bent" lines adjust.

If the answer is no--change the two chips and see what you have--The STK-392-110 chips can also be replaced with STK-392-150 chips---they are a longer life version of the original chip.

If you need help doing the repair ask me before you begin.

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together convergence repair kits for most models.

The kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, thermal paste, etc. Everything you will need to do the repair yourself.

I have green outlines in the pictures

go into your menu there should be something called convergence in the menu a red and a blue convergence. when you select one you will get a cross in the center of your screen use the selection keys to move this so the two crosses are on top of each other. once you align both the red and blue ( the green is the base) then go to the multi point convergence if all crosses are lined up you are good if not then you will need to replace the convergence I.C. for that color or both. let me know how this turns out.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick note and they will put one together for you. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.

Problem #2 CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

Picture of a set that needs the fluid changed.

Convergence drift

Well, problem is that your TV is just too big... ;] Most probably you're looking at a job that includes replacing some STK chip on the convergence board, or the board itself. in parts a chip should be around 5 bucks, and the board over a hundred. Good luck
