Do you have a USB cable that goes from the monitor to the PC? Have you tried plugging the external drive into the PC directly? A TV for a monitor is just that; a monitor. It's not a PC, the USB port on a monitor is just a pass through to the PC. So unless you have a USB cable from the monitor to the PC it won't "see" it.
What is occurring is the TV monitor is extending your desktop, where what you were doing in the past is switching between the two. When you plugged the VGA cable in, what occurred is your desktop was increased to account for the size of the TV, and it is acting like a second monitor, If you go into the display properties on your computer you will see a monitor with a 1 and one with a 2. The monitor with a 2 on it is the television, and whatever side it is to the #1 monitor (most likely to the right) if you scroll your mouse to the right of the monitor on your computer you should see it appear on the TV, to play or have a window on your TV, simply click and drag the window into the TV screen Frame, and then maximize the window, this will allow you to continue to work on your computer monitor while the other program runs on the television. It's basically like having two monitors instead of switching between the two
Well the monitor obviously works, so I see no reason to open the case on the monitor especially because there are no user serviceable parts within the case. my sugestion is to try the monitor on another PC if that yeilds the same results then I am wrong and the problem lies with the monitor. I believe the are two types of connections for this monitor VGA and DVI Next step is to try the one that you have not tried yet if that fixes it then the problem lies in the output conection on the back of PC the input connection on bottom of monitor or the cable itself. If there isn't a second connection like I think then the next option would be to try another monitor, which if you do not have available can be achieved by using most new flat screen TV's If you have a TV With the same conection Just move the PC or TV close enough to try, Use your remote to change TV input to PC then turn TV off connect cable turn TV on and start up your PC if this works you will need to have your monitor repaired or replaced.

Hi there,
Once you're TV is connected to the PC. Go to the display settings and check if the computer detects multiple monitors. Identify the monitors and set your TV as the main monitor. If this a laptop there is also a switch that will let you toggle from the PC display to the TV.
Check the TV output some TV's needs the channel to be set to the output where the PC is connected.
Some says PC some may say VGA or RGB. (depends on the brand of your TV)
Once that is the output channel is set and the cable is connected then you should be able to use your TV as the monitor and watch that movie.
Hope this helps!
if you want to set up a dual tv monitor system using via pc as a source you will need a VGA splitter usually 2 or more output. now how are you going to connect the 2 monitor and PC to the VGA splitter. first make sure your tv monitor is supported by service input for PC unit. then prepare the accessories needed. the VGA splitter and VGA cable. sample image for VGA splitter VGA cable or connector how are you going to hook up the splitter and VGA cable to the tv monitor and PC
you need 3 vga connector and 1 splitter to connect a dual monitor system.
connect one end of the vga connector to the pc unit and the other end to the input port of splitter.
now the 2 remaining vga connector connect to the output of splitter either of the port, then the 2 end wire you must connect to the input port ( pc service port ) of the 2 tv monitor. make sure you set up the right input either with the remote or at the tv unit to recognized the pc source.
you almost done the connections now at this point plug the tv monitors, plug the dc adapter supply of the vga splitter and lastly turn on the pc unit to view movies. i hope it will help you just ask me if you have further questions thanks for choosing the fixya.
You can't hook you TV to the monitor itself, rather the computer. If your PC has a wide white connector (DVI) that is supplying signal to the monitor, you could use a DVI to HDMI adapter cable to connect your PC to your TV. This is also possible if your PC uses a small blue connector with 15 pin holes (VGA) by using a VGA cable to connect your PC to your TV.
in general one can use any tv as a monitor..its depending on the video card and the type of outlet it has ...but usually all new lcd tv-s support with easiness signal from computer ...
