Pemove ALL media, DVD, CD, USB, etc., unplug, remove battery, plug in If it boots , try a system restore/recovery by using the F keys.

Plug in a USB mouse and then try to download the Acer driver for your touchpad here: http://support.emachines.com/em/driver/index.html

If you install the newest driver off of the Emachines website, and the touchpad still doesn't work, then it is possible that the touchpad has gone bad.

You can go through your control panel to troubleshoot your hardware.

Hi i have the same model Emachine Laptop E725 and all you have to do is go to this website http://emachines.com/ . Once the page shows up select > Customer care > Drivers and downloads > Notebook > E-series > Select E725 or other model that you have > Confirm> After that it will show you the page which you can change the operating system WIN XP, Vista or Windows 7 it depends on your operating system just select the right one. Scroll down for E725 model I am using Chicony Vendor. You can try it. Hope this will work for you ..

intact this is a good thing, your machine is too new 4 win Xp but on the bios setup menu look 4 IDE and set it to enabled or disabled just change it.

Check drivers first
click start > right click on my computer > select manage> device management window will open left click device manager> in the list check sound devices for any conflict and to see if installed.
If they are not and you need to know what hardware you have try http://halfdone.com (find all hardware that need drivers so you know hardware you have then just google that hardware for drivers) I have used this download a few times can be lifesaver.
If that software picks up no hardware then could be hardware fault
