Cd/dvd drive won't stay shut

My cd/dvd drive won't stay shut. I close it empty and with cd inserted and few seconds later it opens back up. Any solutions

    I have this same product (HP Pavillion dv9000) and cd/dvd tray only closes and stays closed if the computer is off or in sleep mode. When it turns on the tray just pops back open and when it's on, in won't stay closed.

    mine will only stay shut while off. It clicks shut then makes some 2 little noises and the rectangular light flashes as if its going to spin the disk. But, it pops back out anyway. No matter how i shut it, it will not stay closed.

    I push on the tray so it will close, and it does but only for a few seconds. then the small rectangular light flashes and it makes this noise like it's going to play the disc but it just opens again. what should i do?

I have the dv9000z. If I do NOT push the DVD drive tray all the way in until it CLICKS shut, then it OPENS again after 1-2 seconds. This is normal. I have found that most times when I close the DVD tray drive, I am not pushing it in far enough, because the top of the DVD tray is rubbing against the laptop's case. If I just press down VERY SLIGHTLY and push the DVD tray in, the tray will fully close and CLICK shut. This works for me. Good luck.

This unit needs replaced it has seen better days sorry. The only thing you can try is shut off all power to the PC then unplug the PC and that cd drive from the rear of it. let the PC boot all the way up so you see your desk top. Shut it all the way down un plug PC hook back up the wires on the back of the CD player let it boot back up see if this stops it.Remember to rate my solution this is how i earn my achievements also testimonial Thanks much in advance.

My Dell Inspiron CD Drive Won't Stay Shut
Wow. Power off the laptop then turn it over. Look for the one screw that holds the cd drive. It will have a circular icon on it. Remove the screw and then pull the cd drive out. Then put it back in and replace the screw. Hopefully all it needed was to be reseated.

Cd drive door won't stay shut
This is an indication that the CD-drive is detecting that the inserted disk is not FULLY inserted.
If it is fully inserted, and it is mis-reporting the condition, then spend $35 to purchase a replacement CD/DVD reader/writer.

There's a little piece of plastic or metal that's connected to a sprin which clicks into place when you close the dvd drive and keeps it closed. Either the spring or the plastics is stuck or broken. They're very easy to replace and used ones don't cost much

1.DVD icon displayed in My Computer.
2.When I insert DVD or Cd in the drive,Green light flashes and tries to read the nedia and goes off within few seconds.
3.DVD drive in My Computer when clicked shows empty folder
4.Uninstalled DVD drivers in Device Manager and let windows find it on reboot
5.Issue still persists.
6.Right now external DVD RW works perfect.

Not recognizing DVD player
i would say for some reason your dvd player is not compatible from now on with that brand of blank dvd!


get the firmware update from the brand website all you do is download the file burnit on a cd and put it in the dvd player should fix most and eventual problems
