My self clean feature on my stove will not start. Don't know where the model number on the stove is so I can't tell you that. It is 20 years old and is a down draft fan. Can you help me?

There should be a manufacturing date on or near the "Model and Serial Number Plate(behind left side of storage drawer)".

It likely is the year 2000 +-, so it's approximately 20 years old.

you can't get parts for this stove anymore so i wouldn't use the self clean on it,use soft scrub to clean it it says not to use easy off on a brand new oven but at this point i don't think it would matter on a 20 to 30 year old oven,when you put a stove into self clean it gets up to 1000 degrees,the wire casings on older stoves break down as it is but with all that heat you can do some damage to the stove,even if you just bought a brand new stove using the self clean can damage the electronics in it,usually it will take out the computer board or clock assy. same thing,your clock is most likely broken on that anyway or something else could be wrong with it and most likely you won't get it to self clean but if you want to use it or try to get it into self clean go here and read from page 32 to 36 hope this helps you out but i would not put it into self clean

Hi

Press the self-clean button to start the cycle. The panel becomes blank (---), then press the up arrow (^). The panel will appear 3:00 (indication for the duration of self-cleaning). The oven will lock on its own and start the self-cleaning. After self cleaning is done wait for 15-20 minutes and open the door. Please post back for any further assistance. Hope this helps...

Too many repair problems ensue.

yes you may have to select a start and stop time on the clock.scrape all you can out before cleaning though

Can you locate the model number on the oven? Also any particular name of the stove? The manufactured year. These should all be available on a stainless steel or aluminum attached plate , probably on the back of the stove or inside the door.
I wouldn't try using the self cleaning feature until we get some advice. it could lock up on you and not UNLOCK. Normally self cleaning takes place at 600 or more degrees .
