Introduction:Similar with the blue screen of death (BSOD), black screen of death (BlSOD) is generally a colloquialism used for the black error screen displayed by some operating systems. It is another type of screens of death which indicates there is a critical system error which can cause computer crash and the system could not start to prevent damage. Unlike blue screen, black screen of death usually occurs when booting up your computer.
Note: If you encounter a problem with blue screen, please visit "HOW TO REPAIR THE BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH (BSOD)?" for help.
What is the symptom of black screen? The symptom of black screen is usually simpler than blue screen. Often, Windows users encounter a black screen crash when booting up computer. Here we listed some possible examples:
1. Computer displays an error message such as some file is missing or corrupted on a black screen during startup or boot.
2. Computer switches to black screen after a period of use.
3. Monitor with no responses.
4. A black screen is shown with cursor flashing on the top left corner
5. Boot to a black screen and the power switch light will be green and then turns to orange or amber. Everything is running.
6. Etc.
What causes black screen? Also, the black screen of death could be caused by various reasons, from software to hardware. It is not easy to solve such problems for the difficulty of figuring out the reason.
The first and most obvious reason for a computer appearing to run but you cannot see the video is the monitor. Maybe the power supply of monitor is down, and sometimes the monitor doesn't link to the motherboard properly.
The second reason would be failing display adapter or video card.
If something do show on the screen, and monitor displays an error message. Damaged system file is the reason for black screen.
Black screen error would show up when hard disk, RAM didn't connect to the motherboard or broken down.
How to fix black screen? If you are not a computer expert, I strongly recommend you don't fix the problem manually since it is complicated and if you do it wrong may lead to other issues. In this case, how can you do? Just try a free software. You may use it to check computer hardware and software first( this will be done automatically the time you open the program). Then click "Fix Now" button and the black screen problem will be fixed in 3 minutes.

Scareware lol. I would remove it, you don't need it. Download C cleaner to help with clearing out your temp files and to help keep your system running smooth. You can also remove registry helper in the tools section of this program CCleaner Standard

It wont let me on anything it the notebook keeps saying application iesample.exe ecncountered a serious error and must shut down

Hello, Please follow the these steps from Microsoft to correct the situation:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/831432

This problem occurs because one of the following browser helper objects (BHO) is installed on your computer:
  • BuyersPort
  • Morpheus
  • Morpheus Shopping Club
  • WURLD Shopping Community
Additionally, you logged on to the computer with a limited user account. The BHO tries to modify certain system files and Windows Registry entries that require administrative credentials to access. As a result, when the BHO cannot access these files and registry entries, Internet Explorer stops abruptly.

I keep getting a local only connection on my Linksys repeater?

Changes that may help to increase the compatibility of Vista with older networking devices:

Disable the IP Helper service:

1. Go to Start and type in "services.msc" (without the quotes) and press Enter
2. Scroll down to the IP Helper service, right click on it and select Properties
3. In the dropdown box that says "Automatic" or "Manual", set it to Disabled and then click on "Apply"
4. Then click on "Stop" to stop the service from running in the current session
5. Click OK to exit the dialog

Disable IPv6:

1. Go to Start and type in "ncpa.cpl" (without the quotes) and press Enter
2. Right click on each network connection and select "Properties"
3. Remove the checkmark from the box next to "Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6)
4. Click OK to exit the dialog

NOTE: You should do this for each network connection.

Disable the DHCP Broadcast Flag:

Link: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/928233

1. Go to Start and type in "regedit" (without the quotes) and press Enter.
2. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\Interfaces\{GUID}
In this registry path, click the (GUID) subkey that corresponds to the network adapter that is connected to the network.
3. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD (32-bit) Value.
4. In the New Value #1 box, type DhcpConnDisableBcastFlagToggle, and then press ENTER.
5. Right-click DhcpConnDisableBcastFlagToggle, and then click Modify.
6. In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.
7. Close Registry Editor.

NOTE: You should do this for each and every GUID subkey.

The only program I'm aware of that currently relies on IPv6 is the new Windows Meeting Space. The first 2 changes will cause that program not to work - but will leave all of your normal (IPv4) connections unaffected. If it causes problems that you can't overcome, simply revert back to the original settings.

Neither the helper or autorun works on dvd or cd. Problem preceded by spyware infusion which tech claimed caused all kinds of problems. Tech could not fix dvd/cd autostart. Occassionally a quick flash...

Read thru this Microsoft help page on enabling/disabling autorun. If you need additional help or if their info is hard to decypher just give a shout.

The tech may have been accurate in his assessment, some spyware/malware can wreak serious havoc on both the registry and the system files of a Windows machine.

A great app for doing quick and accurate cleaning of malware is Malware Bytes, it's worth the download just in case you ever need it...

Sound control of the keyboard is not working :(

Download and install the control program for the keyboard from the manufacturer's website. Also, there is a "startup" executable that must be running in order for the "helper" program to work - if you've done a registry cleanup or tweaked your startup with msconfig or another utility, it may have disabled it.
