Maytag Dependable Care Plus LAT8824

My washer would fill up water to the set level, then the timer would proceed to wash but the agitator would not spin. The machine would then spin dry, and fill to the set level for rinsing, but would not spin until the timer gets to extra spin, even though the extra rinse button is set to off. Any suggestions what could be the likely causes? Thanks.

The machine will rinse, and then spin. But would not wash. I have checked the lid switch and the water level switch. They both tested fine according to the instructions posted on acmehowto.com. I have not checked the motor, motor coupler and the agitator.

I think that you mean "Agitate" some of the time that you write "Spin" Yes?
If I understand you correctly, you have no agitation during the "wash" cycle, this is almost certainly a corroded agitator shaft seized up in the transmission.

SOURCE: Maytag Washer won't switch from rinse to spin

You have a bad lid switch. Before I retired Maytag had a lid switch kit that improved the switch that was originally in it. The problem would usually present itself if a person accidentally dropped the lid with a bang which would put the lid switch out of adjustment.

SOURCE: How do you remove the agitator on a Maytag Dependable Care Washer?

If this is a Maytag Performa or Atlantis model all you have to do is remove the center cap on the agitator by pulling on it and locate the agitator bolt underneath. Loosen the bolt, and the agitator should pull straight up.

If this is a Maytag Dependable Care series there will be 1/4 inch screw along the side of the agitator towards the bottom. Remove this screw and the agitator will pull straight up.

I hope this helps you.

PS If the problem is due to the build up of fabric softener, soak in some hot water to loosen it up. Fabric softener is essentially a form of liquid wax and it is common for it to accumulate and clog the dispenser in this manner. Periodic cleaning is recommended.

The belt turn the pulley, but the height of the pulley is worn out so it didn't push up a mechanism to release the brake and to engage with the clutch to make the spin.
You have to takethe shaft out to study how it works then it makes sense on what I 'm talking.
The pulley cost only $11 but it is a major laboring exercise. It is a good learning to have hands on to this problem. Good luck on replacing the pulley.

SOURCE: Maytag Atlantis MAV6257AWW

I have a Maytag Atlantis MAV6257AWW. I need to replace the transmission. So I removed all four screws from the inner tub but I couldnt get the inner tub pull out, it's stuck.

From what I read on here, the seal nut doesn't have to be remove in order to remove the inner tub.

I tried every, I even hammer the shaft down from the inside of the tub but still no luck. Can someone help, thanks.

Top load Maytag washer about 20 years old. Fills OK with water but will not agitate. Cannot hear timer ticking at any time. Thanks.

You might have a sensor problem that prevents the cycle from proceeding.
Most washers have a sensor that detects the water level, thus allowing the selection of Small, Medium and Large loads and the related water level.
Some sensors also use a breather tube, which can become clogged with fluff or debris, causing the same symptom.
Only when the sensor activates, will power be applied to the timer or rotary control unit's little motor, thus causing the cyle to proceed.

Washer immediately goes into wash cycle when filling with water on initial start. At the end of the spin cycle ,washer dumps water back in to drum. Also,it's not getting the detergent out of clothes. Maytag...

The water-level switch regulates your washer's fill volume. This switch is usually a diaphragm device with a small, clear tube attached between the switch and the bottom of the washer's outer tub. As the water level in the tub increases, the pressure on the air in the tube increases. When the pressure reaches a certain level, it activates the switch, shuts off the water, and signals the timer to begin the agitate cycle. If the switch is defective, it may prematurely signal the water to shut off. If so, you probably need to replace the water-level switch.

My Maytag washer fill too slowly

There's a little screen at one end of the inlet hose that will clog up; remove that and clean it. Don't forget to reinstall it. You can buy a replacement at the hardware store; take the old one along, there are a lot of different sizes.

Doesnt agitate and there is a gronding noise during wash and spin

A common problem with noises from washing machines has been the under wire that may come out of small clothes. In the washer they can get stuck in one of the inner basket holes and make a scrapping noise, they can actually make there way into the pump and jam the pump, or make a terrible noise when the pump is running. Grab a flash light and have a peek inside the washer for this. Front load washers seem very common to this happen! If the tiny cloth  is showing signs of fraying, may be best not to wash it in the washing machine, replace the cloth.

Water level controls - The water level control is also know as a pressure switch, this is where you set the water level ( small - medium - large ). The water level control is responsible to shut off the power to the fill valve and direct that power to the timer so the washing machine can start up. The WLC has electrical contacts in it that sends power to the fill valve and when the WLC is satisfied the water level is correct the electrical contacts open power to the fill valve and send the power to the timer and the washer starts. Picture of this here. How the water level control knows when it is time to shut the water off is, a air tight hose runs from the outer washer tank to the water level control. As the water fills the outer tank air is pushed up the hose, depending on which setting you have made ( small- medium - large ) is takes a certain amount of this pressure to make the WLC cycle over and shut off the water and send this power to the timer. If this hose develops a leak or a pin hole the washer can over fill as the WLC may not be able to shut the water off. The water level control can also break down and allow the washer to over fill as well.

A couple of tips from readers (Thankx!! ):
~ If you have a loose hose on the water level control or tank end, use a plastic wire tie to help hold the hose tighter and make a tight fit.
~ The water level tube (tube that runs from the square box), access panel on the outer drum where the bleach tube also ends) from the pressure sensor switch (front panel) can become clogged.  Or the two holes from the outer tub into this square box panel on the outside of the outer tub can become clogged. Either clog, I am told by my help repair guy can cause the sensor to think that there is still too much water in the tub and so will not allow motor to activate spin.
~ If the water level control contact is bad, it may also stop the filling ok, but not tell the washer to start agitating.
