Bearings are generally sold at local power transmission shops in your area. If looking in the yellow pages look them up under that heading of "Power Transmission". Your old bearing should have some numbers on it but even if it does, take it to one of the local shops and they'll match it up with the correct replacement. The cost for such a part is very likely under $10.

Help! Just opened my pool and the pump/motor (which is only 2 years old) is very noisy. Sounds like it could be the bearings. Do call someone to the house, disconnect and take to a repair shop, ord

Disassemble the pump to the point where you can see the whole impeller. Then turn the power back on to verify that it is the bearings, and not trapped debris causing the noise. If it is the bearings the short answer is to replace the motor.

Bearing failure is usually related to a leak at the pump seal. This results from either a faulty seal installation, or the pump running excessively hot (from running w/o water).

When replacing the motor carefully examine the seal plate (where the seal is set) front and back for any cracks or deformity. If the new seal doesn't set exactly, it will leak.

Pump makes a load noise

Thank you for posting your question here on Fixya.com.

Your motor bearings are failing. It is most often caused by a leaking pump seal. It is a relatively inexpensive repair if it is caught early enough; before the shaft is damaged from the corrosive water eating into the steel.

Take it to a local electric motor repair shop for inspection. It will likely need a set of 203 bearings for the motor and a mechanical seal for the pump. All told, depending on the labor rates, it should be less than $75. You could try to repair this yourself however if you are not familiar with the process it is money well spent having someone who is do the repair for you.

The 1 1/2 HP pool pump is noisier than it was. I am assuming the bearings are going bad. Do you need to replace the entire pump or can you just replace the bearings? Suggestions would be appreciated! ...

I have a DREAMMAKER SPA (6 months old) with a 2 speed HYBRID PUMP. It has developed a high pitched whistle or whine when running. Is this a bearing? Could there be some stuff stuck in the impeller??

90% chance it is indeed the bearings. It is possible something could be stuck in the impeller causing noise, but not usually a high pitched whine. If you see water leaking, or calcium buildup where the pump meets the motor, then the shaft seal has failed and that is what's causing the bearing failure. Either way you'll need to replace the motor or have the bearings replaced. Look for a local pool pump repair shop (or some pool supply stores replace bearings as well). They should check the motor out for free and give you estimate to to repair/rebuild, or a price on a new motor if that's what you need/want. Hope this helps. If you need further assistance post a reply in the comments, and don't hesitate to leave a good thumb rating if you found this helpful. Thanks, and good Luck!

I have an AO Smith SQ1102 pool motor that stopped running. it blew the breaker It was very loud, So I know it needs bearings. I have 3 AO Smith above ground pool motors that are more of a round flange...

no. it sounds like its too late for your motor , no need for a pool pump motor repair kit ,there is one on ebay . but it sounds like your motor is toast if it blowing the breaker... hey i could be wrong . look for a shop that has free pool pump motor testing .use your zip code in your search..
as far as using the bearings off them threw bolt motors. do what ya got to do, but you might find that the front bearing is a bigger bearing .. i charge 85.00 to rebuild a 2.. but you must catch them befor its too late 2hp new = big $$$
best of luck .. and if'n i was any help ? push on them thumbs up to vote ... thanks jay..oh PRIME THAT PUMP !

Pumps is humming...and not working. Is there a reset button? Can this be fixed?

You need to check and see if the shaft going from the motor to the pump is turning. You can do this by adding a small piece of white electrical tape to the shaft (while the motor is unplugged and not running or you could injure yourself). If the shaft is turning then the pump is loosing prime and will have to be replaced. If the shaft is not turning, it could be the bearings are locked up. You could try oiling the bearings. They are located on either side of the motor. Not too much, or you could damage the motor. If this works then you should probably budget for a replacement next year as this is usually only a temporary fix. If it doesn't loosen it up then you will have to replace the motor. I found it cheaper to replace the pump and motor as a unit from the pool supply store rather than trying to purchase a new motor from a motor supply store. Check prices before making your purchase. Hope this helps.

My magnum force pool pump was installed in dec. 2003. It still pumps very strong but is making a very loud noise when its on. It seems to be working fine except that its really, really loud. Any ideas?

More than likely your bearings are going bad. Pool pumps run many hours a day and if you get 5 years or more then that is about all you can expect. More than likely you can buy a new motor for just a little more than the price to replace the bearings but I suggest you contact a local electric motor shop to get a price on both. It will not hurt to continue to use the unit until it dies but the noise will drive you crazy and will really anoy your neighbors. You might want to install a smoke detector in the event the unit starts smoking or starts a fire.
