I took my TECHNICS SL-1200MK2 apart to replace the tone arm and the wires. Now I am having a problem reassembling it.

  • shwell Jul 02, 2008

I did it from the bottom. In all honesty, I have a decent handle on the reassembly, but there are a few little bits that have me confused on where they should be placed. Thank you fro the break down. It should prove to be very helpful.

Oh boy. This is always interesting. Here is a part schematic which will help you in figuring out how to put this back together:

However, there's a little more to it than just putting it back together. YOu have to make sure the wires are routed correctly.

How did you disassemble it? Did you just remove the screws from the top (incorrect), and go that route, or did you go from the bottom of the unit (the correct way)?

Feel free to give us a call here, and our techs can walk you through this:

The main thing you have to be careful with is the routing of the tonearm wires. If not routed properly, they can be severed in the re-assembly. It has to go through the smaller of the holes on the cabinet where the tonearm mounts, and then routed through the white plastic piece right through the middle hole.

    Good luck!

Hi i would lick to send my tone arm and base off to be anodised they have asked me what metal it is made of can you please tell me also the pop up light shell.thanks

They are asking this because anodising is especially suited to aluminium alloys, but not to steel.

Anodising can be done in various colours and finishes. Steel can be chrome plated, shiny or dull, and also plated with other coloured finishes such as cadmium.

The tone arm in this photo of the SL-1200Mk2 looks to be chromed, which means it is steel. To find out use a small magnet at the midway point to see if an attraction can be felt.

Why is the right side of my Technics turntable dropping out and giving me a ground hum?

It sounds like a bad connection to the cartridge, perhaps even the cartridge itself.

Just bought a new Shure high performance stylus for my Technics SL-1200MK2. After a few weeks of use, while a record is playing the volume on the left channel will drop significantly. If I take the...

it could be two things:
1.the tone arm wires that connect to the head shell (blue-red-green-white i think)
2. the needle arm has twisted round
Put it on the other deck if you've got one & see if it does it.
look right at the end of the needle tip,& see if it's straight & pointing down, if not carefully twist the needle arm round until it is,& push it into back in to the cartridge a little bit.

I have two technics turntables that aren't outputting any sound.. What are some possible problemns and how much would it be to fix???

Old decks have BAD RCA connectors. I would start there first. Its easy to solder them in... but you have to take the decks apart. As well as look at the leads that run through the tone arm down into the decks.
