6-29-2008 I have a Maxtor One Touch 4 Mini that I use to back up files on my desk top and also want to use it to transfer the same files back and forth with my laptop. Both the Desk Top and the Lap Top are Windows XP-pro but my IBM ThinkPad A21m Laptop doesn't recognize the One Touch. When the One Touch is plugged into a USB port the lamp on the drive lights up, after a several seconds it starts to blink and a message pops up telling me that this device can perform faster if you connect to a Hi Speed USB 2 Port. This is the same message I receive with my Desk Top and the drive works perfectly when plugged into it. How do I start trying to solve the communication problem? Thanks Glenn [email protected]

After following the on-line instructions I replaced the USB cable that came with the Maxtor with a difrent one and now the drive works as it should. I do not know what the problem is with the original USB cable.
Thanks for the follow-up

Maxtor file transfer problems

well..it's possibly the case that the maxtor is looking for mp3 files that are compressed using a different algorithm than what you are sending to it. can you open an mp3 file, and look at the properties, then compare that to your mp3 file specs for your maxtor

Access can be denied for several reasons - if the file is in use or even part of it - try dragging the folder or file to your desk top and then delete it

Maxtor mini one touch 4

When you were in device manager did you notice if it was enabled? Did you try to force install the hardware somewhere else, or did you try to change what driver was used?

Safety Drill using the Maxtor OneTouch 4 Mini

The safety drill ONLY copies documents and email stuff. So the restoration process would only put back all the documents (and pictures) and email info. It should not interfere with the rest of your computer setup at all.

Light turns on but My Computer does not recognize the drive

Sounds like you lost the drivers for your external. W/ out an online PC you cannot download them either. Do you have a friend that could do this on their PC? That is the only way.
