I have a sony vaio vgn nr430e laptop the display goes off as soon as the cpu fan starts rotating

remove battery and retry with only ac power connected ..if that works then the battery is bad...if that doesnt work then it could many other things like bios battery, power connector, mobo...

If you can switch on your laptop in Safe mood then i will suggest you to remove recently installed application from your laptop. or you can try system restore oprtion to restore your laptop to earlier date when it was working. you can find system restore option in Start menu- Accessories and system tools.

The CPU fan is dirty, open the back cover of laptop and clean the fan with compressed air or a toothbrush

Go to Sony eSupport - Computers & Peripherals - Select Your Model.

Reinstall the Memory chips.

i have the same problem pulled it apart a few times and it started to work againg am still watching it to see what will happen planning to buy a cooling mat.

Usually Sound from Notebook are from CPU cooling fan and from Hard drive.

But It's hardly occur in the case of Hard drive.we called it Hard drive failure and the only solution for this is new replacement.

Your problem could be CPU cooling fan not working properly. Open the Notebook ( it will be easy if you refer to manual on how to open) and start the system now, you will be able to pinpoint what causes the sound.

Clean the CPU cooling fan with an air blower and re-check if the problem still persists.

If OK,then close the Notebook otherwise replace the CPU Cooling fan with a new one.
