I also can't get the base off and can't figure out for the life of me why it doesn't say it in the manual. This is my 4th LCD Tv and I can't believe this is so difficult.

I have the TV stand off but there is a large silver bolt sticking out and I can not remove it.

  • Anonymous Jul 19, 2008

I am having the same problem. I've removed all the screws and the big bolt in the center of the steel support is so tight I can't get a wrench around it to remove it. This is insanely difficult for such a simple question.

I struggled with this at first but realized it was simple in the end!!

1 - Locate and remove 4 screws at the bottom rear cover of TV (they connect the rear cover to the metal shaft of the stand) these screws are recessed deep into the the rear unlike the screws that are around the edges.

2 - Then remove the 2 screws that are located just above the base of the TV stand and at the bottom of the rear cover of TV.

3 - Pull base from bottom and it will slide out very easily.

4 - Dont forget to replace the 6 screws back into the rear cover of TV.

We just got an Insignia and had the same problem. We finally figured out there was a "hidden" screw inside the bottom bracket hole (for each side) of the stand and one screw (for each side of the bracket) at the bottom of the back of the TV right above the stand. Once we removed these four screws (two for each side) then the TV lifted right off. Hope this helps.

Q - How can I remove my LCD from its factory-installed stand?
A - To remove the base of the LCD TV you need to use a Phillips screw driver and remove all screws attached to the metal bracket that holds the LCD TV base in place.

SOURCE: Need base for Insignia TV

It will either slide out from the front/back or to the side..Some actually bolt on from the bottom using screws/bolts.And then again some are not meant to be taken off.Make sure it is a wall mountable tv.Then try to take the stand off as directed.

Removing the stand on Insignia LCD 26F TV

My insignia 26 inch dvd combo TV stand can be removed by removing the access cover to your input connection. There are eleven black phillip-head screws. The three bottom screws also hold the plastic base cover in place. Remove all eleven screws and pull the stand out from below. The four philip-head screws on the back center of the TV is for the location of the wall bracket mount. Good luck.

Tv stand screws

Check the kitchen drawer next to the fridge for the screws !!

When you get new screws, use lengths 1/2".. any longer and you might hit something inside.

Don't know why this is posted under IS-LCDTV26.. I would pull a screw from my 26" and measure it, but it's most likely different than your 42"

Remove base of Insignia ns-ltdvd26-09 lcd tv for wall mounting

Open up the panel on the back of the TV which covers the various input connections. At the bottom of the area previously covered, there are 8 screws (two rows of four screws). Remove them, and the entire stand should now slide right out of the TV. You can then replace the screws back in their holes, so you don't lose them. You do not need to disassemble the stand to do this.
