Question about Smart Pulse Livescribe pen

2 Answers

We have an out of warrenty livescribe pen which isn't charging. Checked their forums and many people are experiencing the same issue. As of now, the company doesn't seem to offer a solution - apart from replacement. How can you help?

It may actually be charged, but the screen display is no longer working. a review of Livescribe's site shows they are aware and don't care, but hide behind warranty. They have sold hundreds of thousands, and this seems to be a pervasive problem. I would like to see a lawfirm take is on; I have 3 pens in the same boat.

I finally found our pen today after not using for a couple of years. It's also the Pulse 2Gig. It doesn't seem to charge but the data was copied to our new computer. I'm interested in what can be done, but it sounds like NOTHING can be done. :-(

This is BS, and the company should be held accountable. I'm in the same boat, need a new battery, and REFUSE to buy a new car because the tires are worn. I will find a fix or never buy a livescribe product again

Replacement at this point means replacing 3 pens that otherwise work. I originally thought the issue was charging the pens. it is instead a bad LCD display. They all seem to have gone bad simultaneously; I think it is a bad software update that killed the LCD component. This should not be a warranty issue, it is a production problem introduced outside of warranty issues. There needs to be a class action suit.

At one time I was a HUGE advocate for this product. Now, I might add that replacement means throwing out 3 pens, and accessories, over $500 worth. One pen, the Echo, was purchased 14 months ago. All works except the screen; which means apps, pen status like date and battery condition, or even if it is recording or not, cannot be verified. This is absurd.

My pen is appears to have no power and unable to use - I have tried to charged but pen does not show any signs of charging can you suggest how I can fix this?

How old is it? The OLEDs on mine went south after a few years. I find the pen, albeit a great idea, the execution is junk. No user replaceable battery?? Its really planned death.

My screeen on livescribe 2GB pen does not work. Has been sitting idle for 1 year.

Welcome to Livescribe. The OLED has 'decomposed' sotosay.
It was either the display or battery that would fail. The only option I've seen thus far is buy a new one.

Display is black

Hi Livescribe user, i owned both the livescribe Pulse and Echo and they both failed with the same problem-a black LCD display. I contacted Livescribe via Live Chat which is a 24 hour service and i was asked a few questions one of which was to provide the pen's serial number. This is needed to determine if your pen is still under warranty. if you do have your original packaging the serial number would be found on the outside at the back. If not you would need to
1. Open your Livescribe desktop
2 Click on thelp menu
3. Click on livescribe support( internet conection needed)
4. A browser opens up
5. Click on support
6. Click on Customer Support
7.Click on item 28005-getting the smartpen serial number( blue text)
and follow the instructions.

To contact Live Chat go back to
3. As above
4 Scroll to the bottom of the page
5. Click on SUBMIT A REQUEST( Blue text )
6. A new page opens up
7. Click on Live Chat( bottom of the page)
I was quite impressed and satisfied with Livescribe's response. Both of my pens were replaced (valid warranty).
The Echo did fail a second time but i never pursued getting a second replacement and my Pulse works fine.
Hope this helps

Livescribe smartpen (Echo) not able to charge

Hello.

Sounds like the micro USB cable is defective and needs to be replaced. But, first try the cable on another USB port to be certain that the USB port is OK.

Hoope this helps.

Memory is full and won't download. Have the latest update, but can't transfer to pen due to memory full most likely. Not sure what to do to get it to clear the memory and get the latest...

Hi i am glad to be able to help you with this. I had the same problem and this is what i did.... 1) Open livescribe desktop 2) Dock your livescribe pen. 3) Click on the audio tab on the top left hand corner. 4) Left click on your last audio download 5) Release the mouse and hold down the shift key on your keyboard and at the same time pressing the arrow up key until all of your downloads are selected. 6) Right click on the page with your mouse and select from the shortcut menu " Remove audio from smartpen ". This will remove all your recordings from your smartpen but they will be saved on your computer(livescribe desktop). Please note that the process of clearing your pen's memory takes a while ( approx. 5-8mins for 1GB). Your livescribe desktop may indicate that it is not responding but don't remove you pen. When your pen's memory is cleared it will be indicated on your desktop. You will also notice during this processthat a pen and a computer are highlighted on your pen's display.

i hope that this helps.

After installing the latest software I am unable to upload audio.

With the latest desktop, you also need the latest smartpen firmware. This screencast may help: http://www.youtube.com/pencaster#p/u/4/W_bAzZdZURQ

If i have 2 computers can i dock my pen at either computer

As long as your computers have a connector called a serial port on your motherboard then you will be fine. If you dont then you need to get an adapter to usb.
