I had the same problem and eventually found the solution. the tact switches behind the front panel buttons tend to leak when they get old causing them to activate by themselves. take off the back cover and the switches are mounted on a small circuit board that just clips in. remove the channel up and down switches from the board and clip it back in. your TV should work fine again. you of course will have no control with the front panel buttons but the remote will still work.

update: I found replacement tactile switches at Newark, part no.
PTS645TL50. I replaced all six switches on the board and my TV works
great now. I opened up one of the bad switches and noticed some
deposits between the contacts from the copper plated actuator. This was
probably causing a leakage of charge between the ground side and the
high side which would activate the switch. If the set is plugged in
then one side of the switch is always at high potential even when the
    TV is off.

I have a RCA LCD TV model no. RLC3708A and when hooking it up when I took it out of box, I got to

I think you are confusing the channel on the tv and the channel of the cable company that is not something that you can pick up with the scan tv, scan tv is good for picking up local channel meaning air channel that we get with a antenna only not the cable chanel

How to record a program you are watching on your cable satellite receiver.

Hello,

Most of the time we watch TV programs with our cable satellite receiver/decoder. And sometimes we would love to record these programs so that we can watch them again. You can learn how to record your TV program while you watching a TV program.

All you will be needing is a DVD recorder or VCR (Video cassette Recorder). It all depends on the one you prefer.

There are two methods of doing this connection. 1. is RF connection and the other is RCA. But I will start with the RF connection method;

This is how is works. Get a RF cord, check the back of your TV, you would see RF in, connect the RF into TV in, then connect the other part to RF Out at the back of the Cassette or DVD Recorder.

Turn the Cassette or DVD Recorder and the TV on. Go to Channel 1 or any channel on the TV, search the TV stations automatically or manually in order to get a display of the Cassette or DVD Recorder on the TV. To easily get the Cassette or DVD Recorder's station, play a movie on the Cassette or DVD Recorder while you search for the station. Once you see the display of the movie on your TV, you would easily know that that's the Cassette or DVD Recorder station.

Once you have gotten a display from the Cassette or DVD Recorder, save the channel on the TV.

Then get another RF cord, connect it to "RF out" at the back of the Satellite/cable decoder/receiver and the other part to "RF in" at the back of the Cassette or DVD Recorder.

Now with the Satellite/cable decoder/receiver turned on and the Cassette or DVD Recorder also turned on, press the Cassette or DVD Recorder's channel, you should find search. Scan for channel/stations on the Cassette or DVD Recorder just like you did on the TV and you will find a display of the Satellite/cable decoder/receiver showing on the TV via the Cassette or DVD Recorder. Note that on some Cassette or DVD Recorder, you will have to select "Source" to RF before you can get a display of the channel.

Now since the Satellite/cable decoder/receiver program is now showing via the Satellite/cable decoder/receiver, insert a black disc or cassette into the Recoder and press record. The Satellite/cable decoder/receiver programs showing on the TV via the player will be recorded and that would be all.

For some recorders that has internal hard drive, you can just press record without inserting a blank disc......

USING RCA CONNECTION METHOD.

You could also achieve this by using a RCA (yellow, red and white cord).

The connection procedure is the same with the RF explained above.

Connect the Recorder to the TV. That is, from "Video and audio Out" of the recorder to "video and audio in" of the TV accordingly. Press AV or source on the TV to confirm that there is a display from the recorder on the TV.

Now connect the RCA cord to "OUT" from the Satellite/cable decoder/receiver to "IN" at the back of the Recorder.

Then, press source on the recorder to "INPUT" (RCA) and the Satellite/cable decoder/receiver's program will automatically display on the TV.

While the Program is being displayed on the TV via the recoder, insert a blank disc and press record on the player and it will automatically start recording. You will see the record or record symbol while the recoding is in progress.

I hope you understand the above. Please follow steps closely and you won't have any problems.

Good luck.

Hello my mother's rca tv is stuck on channel 91. when i turn it on and use the channel keys on the set, they don't change the channel. i'm trying to get it on channel 3 so she can watch her cable.

Press Setup until you see AutoProgram... press Volume ... you will see the channels start to change. It will cycle to ch 62 or so, then go back and do the lower channels. as soon as it hits 3, quickly press Setup. it will stay on ch3, if not do it again. Once you get it on ch3, press setup until you see Channel Add/Del ... press Volume to add it. Press setup until screen is cleared. Ch /- should now toggle between 3(cable) and 91(a/v in)

I have an RCA converter box hooked up to an RCA TV and a Sanyo VCR. The TV and VCR are set on Channel 3. The converter box is set on Channel 4 and the TV is also switched to CH 4 when viewing digital...

Basically, you cannot use the coax connections for both the VCR and the RCA converter box. I would hook up the phono/cinch connectors from the VCR to the TV if you can (these are also called RCA connectors, but I'm avoiding using that name so we dont confuse the digital receiver with a cable/connector name that is the same here). There should be a yellow one for video and red/white ones for left and right stereo. I believe the RCA converter comes with a three headed cable that can do this for you. With this configuration, you can set the TV to input on these connectors and the VCR should always output there. Once that is set, you can still use the converter box to receive the signal from your antenna, then run the coax to the VCR. Now, the VCR will always have to be set on channel 4 in your setup and you will need to manually change channels on the converter box for it to record a show. Does this make sense so far?

Channel selection

What you need to do is take the remote, go into the menu, find channel scan and do a channel scan to find all the available stations available on this system. Make sure the TV set is in the cable mode and not antenna mode or you wont get any stations above channel 13.
