Restart the computer in safe mode and check if the touchpad is working.
If it is working, then you have to restart the system back to normal mode, uninstall and re-install the touchpad driver and software.
If it is not working in safe mode then, its time you called your manufacturer for a warranty replacement of the touchpad.
You can try it in safe mode or check the mouse settings click on control panel and click on mouse, click on touch pad. if your using alps pointing device make sure the setting was not set to "Disable Touch pad when external mouse is Attached" hope this would work
Not sure what OS you have, so I'm giving generic advice here:
under computer management or hardware, launch your Device Manager.
Scroll down the device manager to "mice and pointing devices".
Click the "+" to expand the list.
Find your touchpad on the list and right click it.
Select properties.
In the window, look for a way to enable the device.
Click OK.
It should work.

try using your external mouse to reinstall the touchpad driver. in almost all cases i've seen of this it has fixed the problem.
hope this helps

Hi,
if you installed an external mouse, it would over-ride the touchpad.
try removing the external mouse, and tap the touchpad twice as if you were double clicking it.
also you could try re-installing the touchpad device driver, usually synoptics or similar.

There's a little button right above the touchpad. If the light on this button is orange, the touchpad is disabled. Press it again until the light is white again and your touchpad should work.
