Dell Inspiron MINI 1012 Laptop Screen 10.1 LED flickers

soldbyajt,

It sounds as though the video card has gone bad in your system. There are a couple of things to try to eliminate the lcd.
If the LCD on the system shows no display or has other problems, here are some basic steps to take:
  1. If the LCD is not displaying any video, connect an external monitor to eliminate a no-POST problem. A good image on the external monitor eliminates a video card problem or a POST problem.
  2. Connect an external monitor when possible for all LCD-related problems to help eliminate a possible software or video card problem.
  3. If the LCD has lines on the screen, check the system during POST as well as system setup to determine if the lines are present in all modes of operation.

If you cannot get any video by connecting an external monitor then your motherboard will need to be replaced. The reason for the motherboard replacement is because your video card is soldered onto the motherboard.

    Thank You,

I have a Dell Inspiron 8500 with a bad video card.So I replaced it with a NVIDIAGeForce FX Go5200 video card from a Dell Inspiron 8600.I'm not sure what type the old one is.I can't get the driver to turn...

Go to NVIDIA WEB site to download the FX Go5200 video driver. Make sure you select the Windows XP or Vista version that matches the Windows version that is installed on the computer.

Replacing Inspiron 8600 screen.

You should go to www.dell.com and key in your service number for full specifications for your laptop. Then you should go to ebay to purchase. Usually about $60us, and pretty easy to install

8600 inspiron laptop

Unless you can see the little safe mode text in all 4 corners then it sounds like the computer IS in regular windows, but the video card drivers are gone. Try re-installing the video card drivers from Dell for that particular video card (there are several possibilities) and see if that helps. It is possible the video card is going bad, but usually re-installing the video drivers works.
This could be a sign of other problems too- start with the video drivers and see if that helps. If it does not- I'm guessing the operating system is corrupt, virused, or the video card is going bad.
