Based on what you've stated, it appeared that the NTFS partition became unhealthy. Since it's appearing as Local Disk (K:), the first thing that you may try is to change the drive letter and rename the disk. Under your Disk Management, you may right click on the NTFS partition and select "Change Drive Letter". Change it to drive V: or X: Y: Z: to make sure that there will be no drive conflict.
If the same problem occur, you may try my solution. Please bear in mind that the solution that you will see will appear to be inappropriate, but more that 50% of my customers were able retrieve their data. Here we go:
1. Wrap the hard drive (HD) with news papers. Make sure to wrap it thick layer of news papers.
2. Place the HD in a sealed container. A water proof container.
3. Put the container into your freezer for 5 to 10 mins.
4. Take the container out and take out the HD. Make sure that the HD is NOT wet.
5. Connect your HD back to your computer.
NOTE: This solution is not required, this is only an option. If you do not like this solution, you can disregard this.
After changing the drive letter and nothing happens, the best thing that you could is to send your HD to a "Data Recovery Center" to retrieve your data. Unfortunately, they will charge you for the job. Here's the link to their site:
http://www.ontrackdatarecovery.com/
After retrieving your important data, they will advise you what to do next. But if you're going to ask me, it would be better to reformat the NTFS partition right after the data are recovered.
Thank you and good luck! I hope you like the solution and my suggestions.
When you power up the computer press F8 key then enter in safe mode. Then open my computer if you are able to see all partition then take backup of all data. If you are not able to access ntfs then right click on my computer icon click on manager then go to disk management and select your removable drive then right click on ntfs partition and tack bakup of all data then format it . then you can use it again. Also make sure on harddisk for jumper settings. Let me know if you need further assistance. thanks for using FixYa.

Ive gone to safe mode, and my computer still doesnt recognize the 2nd partition. it recognizes the 1st partition which is a fat32 and i can access it.
After several minutes when the 2nd partition shows up, it comes up empty, with no name but just a drive letter and its inaccessible, even when i right click to check its properties in the "my computer" screen nothing happens. When i check with disk management it lists the 2nd partition as 100% free space which i found very weird and incorrect cos i allocated 150gb to the NTFS partition and last time i used it i still have like 12gb of free space left.
ive changed the usb cable tht i use to connect the hdd to my pc, i have even changed the sata casing to a new one yet nothing changed..
what else can i do??...
iVE Tried changing the drive letter earlier but it still did not work. i heard there are data recovery softwares one can use so maybe i might just look in to that, and i guess i might have to try out the Freezer idea too.
thanks.
