Does an HP 17.3 biscotti 4 g 320 gb laptop have an internal modem?? I live in a rural area- only have dial -up bought this new and need to know if I need to buy an external modem for use

Your dial-up relies on the internal modem to be working properly.
Check for your modem status using Device Manager.
If the listing for the modem has any yellow or red highlighting, then the modem software or hardware needs to be changed. If you leave your PC plugged into a phone line, internal modems are easily destroyed by lightning storms or surges in the phone line. If the Device Manager looks okay, then call your Internet Service Help Desk.
You need to contact an Internet Service Provider in your area who provides a dial up service. You will also need a dial up 56k modem.
The ISP can supply the setup information and maybe able to supply the modem if your computer does not have a built-in modem.
haha same here and i have an acer aspire one too and i live in a VERY rural area people in the next town over haven't even heard of it. i heard you can get those things on ebay pretty cheap

You will have to use a wireless cell phone type of modem. Some hi end cell phones like, blackberry's and some blackjack's have this capibility, to be used as a computer internet modem, see your local cell phone co. This service will be a bit expensive.
the usual maximum speed for a v92 dial up modem is around 48-52kbps, although sometimes the way windows calculates the speed can be different, showing higher speeds than is actually possible, hence the 115k that shows when connected.
The only way you can get faster download speeds is to download the 'Onspeed' software which compresses pictures etc to enable twice the download speed.
