After a thounder storm , belkin router has a blinking orange light and wireless internet doesn't work. I have tried disconnecting modem, router and computer but i get the same problem. If I only use the modem on the computer it does work. It's only the router that doesn't seem to be working

Sounds like you have to reset the router and put in your info again as when it was new ...

  1. Take a Ethernet cable and connect your modem from internet port of the belkin router and power on your modem.
  2. Take another Ethernet cable and connect your computer from Anyone empty Ethernet port of the belkin router. (if you have laptop then you may connect your laptop using wireless facility. You will find the username and password in the back of your router) .
  3. Now you need to power on your modem and wait for all lights to turn into green or blue lights. If all you have yellow light on your router. Then you need to restart your modem and wait for 2 minute. For more information you can visit : Belkin Router has solid orange light
  4. If you have solid green light on your belkin router, you need to go to your computer and open your browser.
  5. At the very top address bar you need to type the ip address 192.168.2.1 for opening the router setup page. (Sometimes the ip address may be different, you can check the router's ip address via running the ipconfig)
  6. Now you will be able to see belkin router setup page, so you need to click on detect my connection.
  7. If your computer will able to detect the connection properly then this will forward you to the wireless setup page. Here this will ask you to change the password (If you want) and click on next.
  8. Finally you will able to see all configurations window, so you need to check all configuration and click on save and continue to save all settings on your router. Now you belkin router will reboot and this will show you router admin page.
Finally your belkin router will setup and you will able to use the internet. you may try to connect the devices, whatever you want to connect with it.

SOURCE: Belkin F5D8236-4 Wireless Router will not connect

1) With direct connect with modem, check the IP address and default gateway.
(I came across such a modem, it gave default gateway as 192.168.1.254)
I also had the doubt of configuring as a dynamic connection
But it won't work!
Contact your ISP to completely bridge the modem and configure the dsl modem as PPPoE connection with correct username and password.
Finally connect the modem to router and do a complete network power cycle, i.e.: Unplug power from router 1st, then power from modem, unplug the telephone line and now do the exact reverse process... Plug back the tel. cable, then power to modem... now WAIT for lights on modem to come back, then plug in the power to router. This will surely work.
