If the motor is not spinning, you may have a burnt out motor or faulty Motor Control Board. Else, if the motor is spinning, fix the belt from the motor to the drum.
Sounds like the belt needs replace. You can order parts threw Sears or probably Lowes. Its a relatively simple job. 30-60 minute job. Sears carries appliance parts of all sorts. You'll be amazed at what you can find at Sears. You'll have to ask in appliances. But they do carry appliance parts . Remove housing cover and get a better look at the inside. You'll see that it's probably your belt has popped or your motor is gone out. If it's your motor, your probably in for a long job. Either way, there is many stores that carry appliance parts. Just take the modal number down and the make of the washer, and you can pretty much go by that.
Hello there: i will have to do this in two posts ok so here is the first part
Many
washers use a small, relatively inexpensive
motor coupling. It's plastic and rubber and is mounted to the shaft of
the motor on one side, and to the transmission on the other. Over time,
the coupler wears out and fails. you need to completely
replace it.BeltsMany
washing machines have one or two belts. If a belt is broken or badly
worn, you need to replace it with a genuine belt from the manufacturer.
(Some washing machine belts are designed with special characteristics
not found in automotive belts.)Clutch may use a clutch for agitating the
clothes. As the clutch wears out, If the clutch is worn, you need to replace it.
Ask around if you need, but I found mine at an automotive store for a lot less. Remove the old belt, carry it down to your favorite automotive parts store and have them check the size and match it as close as they can. The ones for a car are tougher, (think of the operating environment), and usually cheaper. Mine was on a Westinghouse, but worked just fine.
I am going through this right now and best I can tell..needs a new belt. Pop the front off of your washer (UNPLUG IT FIRST:)) and see if there are black shavings on the bottom. The appliance place where we usaully order our parts from do not carry this belt in stock so it will have to be ordered. Price from them was $19.00+ tax
There is no adjustment provided for lining up the pulleys.
If it comes off then there are a couple of reasons that come to mind, the belt is too slack, the belt is worn, the drum is out of alignment with the motor pulley, caused by worn drum bearings, the motor is loose, a loose drum pulley, or you are not lining the belt up properly, overloading can also throw the belt off.
Hope this helps.
Plz leave feedback.
