My Canon i850 will not print. The green light is on but then the orange light flashes several times, then the green comes back on. Nothing I do from the computer seems to affect it in any way, as if they are not speaking to each other. When I plug the cord into another computer, the computer acknowledges new hardware so the cord must be OK. Any ideas???

I have re-installed the printer driver, even updated it online, and get the same results from the printer.

  • micah1 Jun 27, 2008

Thank you for that. At the point where I'm supposed to let the green light blink until the head stops moving... the orange light blinks, not the green. If I push resume once and power once to execute a test print, the green light comes on but nothing happens. It is unresponsive to all the other commands, but hey, at least I have a solid green light now. More suggestions needed.

  • micah1 Jun 27, 2008

Sorry, none of that works.... I will try the off an hour suggestion.

  • micah1 Jun 27, 2008

    The problem persists unchanged....

Hi,

Based on your post "...they are not speaking to each other...", the only reason is because the printer is offline. Additionally, the flashing orange light might be indicative of a "Waste Ink Counter". The correct procedure would be to clean or replace before resetting but usually you can get away with resetting once.
1. Start with printer OFF
2. Hold down RESUME and then hold down POWER
3. Release RESUME
4. press RESUME twice, then release POWER
5. let green light blink until printhead has finished moving.
6. Select functions below with RESUME, execute with POWER

0 presses - green light - Test Print
1 press - orange light - EEPROM info print
2 presses - green light - EEPROM initialise
3 presses - orange light - reset waste ink counter.

The above was originally posted here. Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

    Hi again,

    Pls try:
    1. Unplug from the mains for an hour or so;
    2. thereafter while still unplug, try to power ON the printer a few times. The idea is to dissipate whatever stored/residual electricity is inside;
    3. Press simultaneously on "Power" and "Resume", without letting go, ask somebody to plug in the printer to the mains.

    Alternately, you can try:
    1. Turn off printer
    2. Hold down Resume button and press Power button.
    3. Keep holding down Power button and let Resume button go.
    4. Press Resume button 2 times then let BOTH buttons go.
    5. Green lights will flash and then stop blinking.
    6. When green lights are solid, press the Resume button 4 times.
    7. Press the Power button and the printer should turn off, if not, press the Power button once more.

    Again, good luck.

count the number of orange flashes in between the green light. two flashes = out of paper, 3=paper jam, 4=empty ink tank, 6=print head not installed, 7=print head defective, 8=waste ink tank is almost full

Canon i850 light is green then flashes orange 7 times then goes green and repeats orange flashing. Printer never gets ready

This is a very bad error. It means that the printhead needs servicing and may need to be repaired. There is no easy fix. Sorry.

Will not print

Remove and re-seat the print head. If need be the print head can be cleaned with hot water. YMMV but I've submerged my i850 print head for minutes at a time. Dry it off, blow it out, and it goes right back to work. Common problem if you're using non-Canon inks.
