Not connect printer port
all 1 zillion printers from 1981 to Now , wow, =!
you pC hardware supports old parallel and USB 2 printers.
The OS? or Drivers , is the hard question.
state PC you are running. ok, 4600 DT (very old with AGP video! P4)
state OS you are running.? (guess XP)
and if connected to the internet.? (no? then its hopeless)
my Windows 8 , supports, nearly all 1 zillion printers. instantly.
but let me guess, it's still running XP on that old Pent,4 system.
you do know the MS drops XP support soon, right?
what does that mean?, that means they will not support all printers, soon. nor all the future security issues, way bad....
So here is the easy answer, for all PC'S, ever.
1: if your PC plugs in to that odd printer, bingo it's hardware compatible, most are USB most parallel printers long sense died.
I have a 1995 epson parallel that works , its a show piece, relic.
USB printer, your PC is USB 2 certified.
2: next, is does the OS support, it, well plug it in, and see.
OS means, operating system.
if you have internet, the OS tries to load a driver to match.
this ACT, is called plug and play(pray) PNP.
if it don't play?
3 :you then go to the printer makers web site.
it be smart to do this, first, if buying relic printers on fleabay, yes.
see if your printer is supported under XP.?
most are not. today. (newer printers my have stopped supporting XP. it's no revelation that. XP is dead. and not secure !)
4: the HCL. is the hardware compat. list.
go to MS, (soon, or its no more..) and find the XP HCL, if not already deleted. and look up your printer.
if missing MS, don't support it.
but that don't mean the maker does not, step3.
ive done 1000s in linux and all MS OS. since day one 1981.(IBM)
before that, DEC !
if thinking printe/r scanner/fax, that is near impossible on XP.
but the maker will tell you that fact. do look.
BTW , i recommend a used, computer
with at least a dual core. then get 4gb memory and load W8
and iNtel box or AMD, (im an AMD man)
or buy a emachine at walf-a-r-t.with w8 loaded.
XP is dead. the sword is thrust thru it's wretched heart.
RIP XP. 21 gun salute.
