West Bend Bakery Style Bread & dough Maker

I got the WestBend Bakery Style Bread & Dough Maker given to me without a manual. Sometimes when making bread the maker makes loud clanking noises during the kneading cycle and then the bread comes out all lumpy and mis-shaped. I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong or if the maker is malfunctioning. I do make sure that the pan is set in tightly.Help.
