Trackball issue The trackball on my bb 8310 stopped working properly today. it moves in all directions, however, it will only scroll "up" on screen, it will not scroll "down", even though the trackball moves in that direction. i"ve tried rebooting (batter removal), but didn't work. I have not dropped it nor has it been in water, this problem just started out of nowhere. Thanks!

I have the same problem, except I can't scroll up after scrolling down.

MY TRACK BALL WORKS IN EVERY DIRECTION BUT WHEN I PUSH IT IN TO SELECT APPLICATIONS I WILL HAVE TO PUSH IT 3-4 TIMES AND IT IS VERY HARD TO PUSH. IS IT THE TRACKBALL OR SOMETHING ELSE THAT IS WRONG.

  • icha1984 May 05, 2009

my trackball cannot scroll up and right... it goes well when i scroll down or left. I tried to remove and clean the trackball, but not working.

Sometimes the problem will disappear by itself, but few days later it will stuck all over again.

The silver ring which covers the trackball can easily be removed if you use a small screwdriver to lift it at the outer side of the ring. Be careful here! Like you should be during the whole process as all parts have very small plastic nipple which can break very easy. When the silver plastic ring is removed you will see the inner trackball component which can be removed completely. Before doing this you should carefully remove the silver metal ring that holds the trackball component in its position. The trackball component itself can also be carved. For every direction the ball can roll to you’ll find a sensor wheel. Those wheels are mostly carrying some gunk you should clean them from. Once this is done put everything back together to the place the pieces came from and secure the trackball with the silver plastic ring you removed in the first step. Your BlackBerry’s trackball should be back working now.

YOU NEED TO CLEAN JUST SENSOR WHEELS NOT BALLS ITSELF.

This I found out how to fix today!
Take out the trackball... you probably know how to do that..
Be careful with the ring, the little pegs break easy...
Keep the trackball to the side in the same direction it went in (maybe it matters, but to be on the safe side).
Then look inside... you'll see a little brown colored looking sticker thing... it looks like a microchip or something but it is only tape that covers the contact piece. With a knife or something small you can peel this tape off and the (i call it a popper) will come out. Clean that thing really good and clean the metal contacts that were covered .
Then be sure to put it back on the same way it came off... Use your pinky or a small stick to put the tape/piece back in.

Mine worked GREAT after that...

Trackball for blackberry does not move smoothly

What do you mean...can it move in all four directions?

Most trackball movement problems can be rectified by cleaning the trackball. Try the following steps to see if it helps tp resolve the issue you are having;

1) Turn the unit off, open the back cover and pull the battery out,
2) Take a paper towel, dampen it with water...nothing else, making sure that the towel is only damp and not soaking wet,
3) Rub the damp paper towel on the trackball, over and over, making sure to rub up, down, side-to-side and every which way. This should clean the trackball and remove whatever is causing it to not move smoothly.
4) Wait a minute or two and replace the battery and cover. Once the unit has rebooted, try moving the trackball again. It should be better.

Cheers!

The centre scroll button doesn't 'click'

As you use the trackball on your Blackberry, dirt and oils on your fingers get into the trackball assembly.
You might get some 'traction' on your track ball if you lightly dip a cotton swab in some rubbing alcohol. Swab the trackball, then do a quarter turn, continue until you cover the whole trackball in each direction.
If you get no improvement, then its another defective trackball, and you'll have to return it where you got it; most companies warranty phones 90 days from the date it was replaced.

Cannot scroll up with my Blackberry Curve 8310 trackball

It is a very common problem. You just need a new trackball. Should be about $25. If you want to make it work temporary, then just removed it and clean the trackball and the phone part under it (on the phone itself) with 99% alcohol. It might work for a while again

Blackberry curve scroll button sticking

I had a similar problem, and the only solution is to change the trackball which cost between $5 & $10 dollars on e-bay. An easy and cheap fix, it comes with the tool to replace the assembly. A kid can do the job

Trackball not moving right

This is right, the problem is in the trackball. If you can get hold of alcohol like the one used years ago to clean the heads of tape decks etc, you may be able to put some in the trackball and rotate the ball around in all directions with the hope that it may clean it.
