You need make some changes in your computer before installing XP
1. On start up, press F2 to enter BIOS 2. Expand the "Drives" section 3. Go to "SATA Operation" 4. Change this from "RAID Auto/AHCI" to "RAID Auto/ATA"
You will be able to install XP now

Hi..i have HP pavilion dv5 laptop with preloaded Windows Vista. i want to istall windows xp instead of vista. i tried installing it using xp bootable disc. but after loading the required installation files...

its very simple....
enter the bios setting...The BIOS settings menu is accessible by pressing the f2 or f10 or the f6 key on some computers.
if the BIOS provides an option to disable the native-SATA configuration in the BIOS, do the following steps to Disable the native-SATA in the BIOS

1. Use the cursor to navigate the Configuration options to locate the Native-SATA setting. 2. If there is a SATA setting, select the Disable option, and then press F10 to save the change and restart the computer.

if your system bios does not contain such option.... then find "Native SATA mode" or "SATA IDE"
then change "AHCI" to "ATA"
then press F10 to save the change and restart the computer.

You can try also to do reformat your hard drive as fresh unallocated one before doing formatting again to install windows. And check your installation disk for scratches.

Installation of windows xp on a preloaded windows vista laptop

See this , you have to download the SATA driver , as you have a SATA hard disk , then slipstream it into the xp installation package.

Alternatively , put the driver on a floppy and press F2 when prompted during the setup when its loading all the files (It says Press F2 if you want t o install a SATA Driver"

Then it will detect your drive and install as normal :D

Hanging on detection of drive when installing Windows XP

Installing Windows XP on a SATA hard drive is not a straight-forward task as Windows XP does not recognize the SATA drive. In order to install operating systems such as Windows XP on SATA drives, the latest SATA drivers are required.Download SATA drivers for the motherboard from the website and integrate them with the XP installation CD using software such as nLite. SATA drivers can also be installed as third party drivers; you will be prompted during the installation process. Without proper SATA drivers, installing Windows XP on a SATA hard drive is not possible as SATA mode would have to be disabled in the BIOS to continue with the installation.
Installing Windows XP on a Serial ATA hard drive is not an easy task, because the system does not recognize SATA drivers at startup. Windows XP Pro SP2 fares a little better with SATA drivers, but here is what can be done in cases where the driver is not recognized.
