Solution: Install the print head and ink tanks correctly iP3000 / i560

Seat the print head Below is the procedure for seating the print head and ink tanks:

  1. Power on the printer.

  2. Open the paper output tray and top cover.

Note: Gently open the paper output tray while holding it.

  3. After confirming that the print head holder has moved to the center, open the inner cover.

  4. Remove the orange tape securing the print head lock lever, and raise the print head lock lever.

Note: If the top cover is left open for more than 10 minutes, the print head holder will move to the right. If this occurs, close the top cover once and then re-open it.

  5. Remove the print head from its package and remove the orange protective cap.

  6. Set the print head into the print head holder, and lower the print head lock lever until a click sound is made.

It shows service error 5100 & doesn;t print

Error 5100 is Carriage error.Possible problems in:
- Carriage unit
- Timing **** strip film
- Logic board assembly
- Carriage motor
First, make sure there is no paper jam anywhere in the machine.. look inside, rear, where the paper tray (output) is, etc to see if you find any shreds or torn paper that may have gotten stuck and you didn't see.Look carefully in the zone of Purge unit, using flashlight in the right side on printer. If this not help your printer need service.

CANON IP 1300 SERVICE ERROR 5100

ERROR 5100 means that there is some foreign object blocking your ink cartridge carriage that disables it from moving. It may be a piece of paper or a scotch tape or a staple wire. You may try cleaning also the encoder strip with a moist tissue paper. Furthermore, you may also try cleaning CAREFULLY the contact points of the cartridge holder and the cartridge itself (those shiny bronze pins) with a moist lint-free cloth.

PIXMA iP1300 printer is showing an error 5100

nope try this --
As a technician, I have worked on tons of printers. This particular error had stumped me for a while, but I finally found the cause. As others had pointed out before, it can have alot to do with some obstruction in the print path, the gears, or ink on the clear plastic encoder strip. You're on the right track - I found the the purge cap (the white sliding mechanism that the print head parks to when it's not in use) was not lubricated well enough from factory. If you lubricate the sliders with some white grease (don't get it on the small wipers or the black caps) the mechanism can now slide more freely, and the unit can park the head properly without giving you the dreaded head homing error 5100 (or E-2-2 on the LCD display) Keep in mind that this repair will probably require you to remove the right panel off of the printer to gain access to the purge mechanism. There are two screws behind the printer, and two in front for each corrosponding side panel (the front screws are behind the grey front panel of the printer - open the top cover to see the clips which hold the front cover on) Hope this helps some of you out.
