If any single keys are not working, then the keyboard needs to be replaced. if the whole keyboard stopped working. check the connection with the motherboard. a thin film will be connected to the motherboard. check if it seated properly. it is best to replace with a new one.
Believe it or not Laptops are very sensitive. The processors, motherboard etc. are only protected by a thin plastic covering. Your best bet is to call the brand laptop you have. (HP,Dell, Toshiba etc.) And send it in, will cost money, but if you don't wanna pay hundreds of dollars for a new one. I'd recommend sending it in.
You would definitely need to spend little money. Take the laptop to a nearby laptop repairer and explain to him what you have just wrote down here. He would know better. But you would not spend lots of money. He just needs to clean it off.
The most likely solution would be that your motherboard will have to be replaced. Video cards in laptops can also cause this to happen, but most laptops have the video cards integrated directly onto the motherboard, so to replace one, you'll have to replace both. There are lots of videos on youtube about replacing motherboards in laptops, I'm sure there is one for your model that you can use as a guide. Newegg.com often has the best prices for my company. Short of doing it yourself, you'll have to take it somewhere or send it back to the manufacturer (read pay lots of money) to get it done.
Regarding on your problem, please ask what is the parts of your laptop that is defective and then try another computer shop or technician in your place and find a second opinion on your laptop problem. Then if they have the same diagnostic then i recommend that with that amount of money you are going to pay form then it is very practical to buy new laptop in that amount of money. Also try to contact any supplier or computer shop that sell the parts of your laptop that is defective.
