Pioneer Car Stereo blows fuses

It seems that P151 is the "hot" wire to the transformer which powers just about everything, so that won't tell you anything. Most likely, the wrong speakers were put on the stereo which blew the amplifier circuit. Check the amplifier assembly which is the big block with a fan inside of it.

Check wiring for any shorts. If none found remove radio and harness and test on a seperate battery or power supply. If still blowing there is a problem with the stereo.

Your stereo has a serious fault that is causing the stereo to draw more current than the fuse rating. This is to prevent damage to your vehicle. If you cannot trace the fault that is causing the fuse to blow then you need an auto electrican to assist you.

Get a wiring harness connector for your 1998 GM car - THEN carefully follow each wire color on the harness. Do NOT connect anything to the GM orange wire except "Memory". Do NOT connect anthing to the harness for "Lights" or "Dash" or "DIM" - you will blow fuses. Only connect the Power, the memory and the speakers - period. Then you'll be safe.

When you put the stereo in, what did you do with the red wire with a green stripe? The aftermarket radios don't always use these, so you have to wrap the ends, depending on whether or not you used a wiring harness. If that wire is shorted on the chassis, it will blow the dimmer fuse.

:o( you're going to have to pull the radio out to see what they did. They probably added a wire to an inappropriate circuit to power the new radio or amp. I will paste your factory wiring colors below. If you now have an extra wire, that is the likely culprit. Trace it to see where they hooked it in. If it isn't going to the the fuse box and using an extra slot, make it so by connecting it to the cold side of the fuse and put an approprite size fuse in. To determine the fuse size to use, you can compare the wire gage to other cold side wires and use a fuse the same size as you see being used for similar gage wires. Check for shorts to ground in the speaker wiring, the speakers themselves, total Impedance, especially woofers. Proper size power and ground wire and all connections. Use a Ohmmeter or find a friend with one that knows how to use it, If all else fails RMA .

Most of the car stereos are 40 to 50 watts output.so they need a stronger fuse than 3A.This kind of radios use 10A fuse.
