I have 120Volt cooper 277 pilot light switch here in my office.
Dang instruction sheet shows wiring for all kinds of cooper devices.
EXCEPT pilot light switch.

So I tested with multimeter and came up with following:
Key to any wiring device is color of screws.
Hot from breaker box always goes to dark-colored screws.
Neutral always goes to silver-colored screws.
Brass screws are for Hot wires from breaker or Hot going to Load
Green screw - ground

I have a cooper comb devces how do i wire i want switch to control the plug

The Cooper combo device requires neutral wire to energize the outlet.
To control outlet with switch, the Hot side of device must have break-away fin.
Remove break-away fin.
Connect jumper wire from switch load side to outlet Hot side.

Some of your wiring does not sound up to code.
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-wire-Cooper-277-pilot-light-switch.htm

1) Two differences between regular switch and cooper 277
-Different color screws: Regular switch has two brass screws, and either wire can connect to either screw. Cooper 277 has dark, brass, silver screws, and hot wire connects to dark screw, and wire to light connects to brass screw.
-Cooper needs neutral wire connected to silver screw, to power the indicator light.

2) Some of the wiring in your box does not sound up to code.
Bare ground wire should not be connected to black and white wires.
Electrician should check this out.
Probably the ground wire is being used as a Neutral. Bare ground wires and white neutral wires both connect to neutral busbar at main breaker box.

I am trying to wire a cooper 277 swich to control an outlet. I am having a hard time getting it to work. I have followed the wiring diagram with no luck. I would like the Pilot to be on when the switch is...

Wired as shown in illustration, the pilot light and the Load will come on each time switch is turned on.
The illustration show Load is light bulb.
In your case, the Load will be an outlet instead of light bulb.
So the Load will have 2 wires. The black wire from switch connects to brass screw on outlet. The neutral connects to silver screw.
Bare ground wires connect to green screws.

I"m installing a Cooper Devices

Wiring is suspect.
Black hot wire connects to dark screws.
Break off tab should be intact.
White neutral wire connects to silver screw.
Wire going to switch load connects to brass screw.

Need a diagram for cooper #277w

I made following diagram based on Cooper pilot light instruction sheet:
Neutral wires are usually the white wires that are twisted together in back of box and covered with wire nut.
If your box does not have neutrals, you can also connect bare ground wire to silver screw until you have time to run neutral wire to box >> ground to anything but ground screw is not code and not recommended.

What is the wiring set up for the pilot to be on when light fixture is on and off when the fixture is off. it is currently wired as a night light and is on all the time

Hello,
If the wiring for the night light is internal then you can not change it...
If the wire is external then all you need to do is move the hot (black) wire that feeds the light from the black feed wire to the black wire that goes to your fixture so that it is now switched....

Leviton Single Pole Switch with Pilot Light Model 277W Box

Depends on whether you want the pilot to glow when the circuit is live (the main light is on) or to glow when the circuit is off. (The switch can be used either way, and I have used this switch in both configurations at different places.)

The wiring diagram is on the inside of the box.

In indicates that if you want the pilot light to glow when the circuit is off, then you only need two wires (the live and the return, usually colored black and white, respectively). However, you also need a ground. The instructions say that you need the ground for safety (and probably legal code) reasons, but I suspect that, without the ground, the pilot light won't work in this configuration.

However, if you want the pilot light to glow when the circuit is on, you probably need a three wire configuration (plus the ground).

Hope this helps.
