Hey robinhood123,
The camera being in AV or TV mode should not effect the auto focus system, and if the auto focus is working in the automatic modes that implies to me the problem is with the camera body and not the lens. I would try resetting the camera to the factory default settings by following the directions on page 100 of your camera manual. If you no longer have a copy of your manual I have included a link to it below. If resetting the camera doesn't work I would have the camera looked at by an authorized service technician. I hope this helps!

My Nikon Nikkor 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF-S for Digital SLR lens does not seem to auto focus well. Sometimes the lens will focus and unfocus and refocus constinely. Is this normal??

You did not say which camera body you are using, but you probably have three different auto-focus modes on you camera. You might be using the wrong one.

The modes are as follows:
AF-A Mode: Camera automatically selects single-servo autofocus when AF-A subject is stationary, continuous-servo autofocus when subject is moving. Shutter can only be released if camera is able to focus. AF-S Mode: For stationary subjects. Focus locks when shutter-release button AF-S is pressed halfway. Shutter can only be released when in-focus indicator is displayed.
AF-C Mode: For moving subjects. Camera focuses continuously while AF-C shutter-release button is pressed halfway. Photographs can be taken even when in-focus indicator is not displayed.

My canon eos 400d will not autofocus in creative settings.

Hey mate,

I've been having the same problem. It annoyed me during a day out once.

Set the camera in one of the Creative Modes.
-> Then go to Menu (the button on the left of the screen)
-> Setup 2 (thats the furthest menu on the right)
-> Custom Functions (3rd option down)
-> Go to function 4 and change it to "0: AF/AE LOCK"

Hope that helps mate :)

Cheers

I can't get my Pentax Z50P film camera to automatically focus.

Remove the lens and clean the contacts between the body and the lens with a pencil eraser. Make sure the camera is on Autofocus mode. If these don't solve the problem, take it to an authorized service center.

Pentax istDS Digital Camera, How to set Custom White Balance in Auto Modes

Custom white balance can only be set in P, Tv, Av, or M modes. The auto modes are, well, automatic. They are all preconfigured and intended for ease of use not configurability.

Pictures too dark

The settings in Auto Mode are factory set. If you want to adjust exposure and shutter speeds then you will have to shoot in Manual Mode (TV=Shutter Priority, AV=Aperture Priority, M=Full Manual)

Buying a camera lens

Presumably you intend to use a DSLR. The automatic nature of modes relates to exposure. Lenses autofocus assuming you have turned the autofocus switch on. Switch the autofocus off if you want to manually focus. Whichever you use will not affect the modes

Canon Rebel xti - auto focus problem

AI should be focusing. You really can't change many settings when you are shooting in auto mode. Is the lens in AF mode?

I'm sure you have long since returned from vacation!

Hope this helps!

Auto-focus isn't working

Try checking your settings for the type of shot you are taking and for the type of focus......
type of shot is the dial on the top, and then:
1) menu, metering
and also check your autofocus mode
2)menu, autofocus; try the single autofocus, it might be set to continual

Also, you could try updating the firmware in your camera. You do this through the Nikon website.
