Using to much detergent will make the washer stinky, also it will eat at the spider gear in the back of the tub and when that happens it's new washer time,it costs 450 to 500 dollars just for the part, you should be using 1/4 cup of detergent and it should be H.E. detergent, when the wash is done you should wipe down the boot seal, spred it open and clean out the bottom part and wipe it down till it's dry.also you could have debris stuck in the filter in the pump.remove the bottom panel, unscrew the middle part of the pump and whatever is in the filter clean it out,it gets loaded with coins, lint and everything else that gets left in the clothing and then it gets a detergent buildup and my god does it stink, you would think the detergent wouldn't smell but it does,so wipe down the boot, use less detergent and every 4 to 6 months clean out the pump and you should be fine, let me know how you make out,run the washer with nothing in it,if you see suds in there this is your problem, after you clean out the pump and run it with nothing in it use the tablets again and go from there, good luck

I have a foul smell coming from my washer everytime I use it...It almost smells like sewer gas...HELP!!!

you probably just need to clean the bellow. Thats the rubber that goes around the tub and door. f not cleaned, it will get moldy and smelly. Theres a tablet that you can buy called affresh. just put the machine on a regular cycle if it doesn't have a clean or sanitize cycle, and put the tablet in. Let the machine complete the cycle. (without clothes). You can even try wiping the bellow out with vinegar. after each wash i suggest you wipe the machine out, drying the bellow and glass. Leave it open for about half an hour, to let it air out.

How to get rid of the stale smell from the atf8000 front loader washing machine

first things first we need to purchase a cleaning tablet from local grocery store called affresh tablets in your laundry detergent aisle ,

then clean out filter sump assymbly in bottom corner of washer som washers have an axcess panel in the bottom righ or left hand corber uncrew filter cap and drain in to bucket or a shop vac .

clean debris out of filter and reinstall the filter screw cap in tightly ..

check your console for a clean cycle option in your wash cycles an select put one affresh tablet inside of washer drum and run cycle..

if you dont have a clean cycle thats ok select your hotest water wash cycle or sanitary cycle put one affresh tablet inside washer drum and run cycle ...

after cycle completes always leave waher door cracked open when washer is not in use ,,, reccomend running an affresh cycle once every month or if u notice stagnant water smell the more often you wash with hot water the less chances of smell

The washer smells. I have run 3 Affresh tablets and a bleach cycle and have left the washer open all night. However, the washer still smells. What else do I need to do?

Hi, I once experienced a similar, bad smell problem with my washer. What it turned out to be was a small sock being stuck in the water discharge pipe. This stuck sock eventually began to mold and subsequently smell. Once removed, my problem went away. Also, you can try running your machine with vinager or bleach with NO clothes. This weill remove any lingering oder. Hope this helps. Good Luck!

Washer smells even after cleaning cycle

Hi,

It sounds like an air vent is either missing or clogged. That gurgling usually indicates some sy phoning action going on which is drawing water out of a gas trap. Hence you are getting sewer smell into the washer.

Thank you !!

Has a bad oder

There are a few ways that people use to clean a smelly dishwasher .. First check the strainer at the bottom of the dishwasher for any food residue .. remove that before treating the washer .. then you can do some or one or all of these to see what works for you
If the strainer is messy, pour a good layer of baking soda in the strainer , then pour in some vinegar, it will foam and clean the strainer .. periodically adding vinegar until the foaming stops.
Put a cup or two of vinegar in the washer and run an empty cycle , use it on hot water cycle.
Put in some bleach and run an empty cycle
Put some lemonaide mix in the washer and run it ..

Good luck

My neptune dryer makes all my clothes reak. I have cleaned the air vent out and I didnt see any dead cats or anything like that. Clothes smell like they have been in the dump. They come out of the washer...

You may have lint mildewing in the vent. Take the vent tube off the back and reach in the back and see if there's lint stuck in there. Clean the vent tube also. Use a dryer sheet to help with the smell

Duet washer has a strong odor when draining

you might be getting "sewer gases" from your drain, but most likely your washer is the cause of the odors.
does it also smell musty when you get your clothes out?
whirlpool makes a product called "affresh" that is specially designed to clean out the residues from a front load washer.
you can find them at sears or lowes and the come in a package of 3 tablets. run a tablet on the clean cycle or on whitest whites or the longest cycle you can choose, use hot water and a second rinse option.
also to prevent this odor in the future make sure you are using only HE type soap and dont use too much. the least amount should do well to clean any clothes.

I have a Whirlpool Gold Ultimate Care II, Commericial Quality, Super Capacity Plus...it smells. No really it has a terrible odor. It's a sour foul smell. Water and detergent and various clothes washing...

Whirlpool now has cleaning tablets to take the smell out washers. They say they are for HE front load machine but it works on all machines. They are called affresh washer tablets. Just buy some and put all three tablets in the tub with hot water and let the washer go through a cycle with just the tablet(no clothes). By putting all three in the washer at one time it will kill the smell. For later use the package is a three month supply. They cost under 10 dollars.
