sometimes the motor of it have something called CARBON BRUSH inside,, try to look at it and replays a new one,,,,it is the most common trouble of a drill when its getting old olready but still can be fix by your self..good luck its not to hard..

Sure, it could be bad brushes or a broken connection inside the drill.

This kind of problem often start in the machines battery contact springs. In the sprigs should be bent or be slack for any reason, poor contact will occur causing heating (as you noticed). This in turn weakens the tension of the spring/contact in the drill itself further. Inspect the contact springs and look for discoloration and moulted plastic around it. You must replace the drills battery contacts to avoid this problem from escalating. The battery may be saved if you gently rub the contact surfaces with an abrasive. Check the charger's contacts although they may not be replaceable so you will have to improvise. Do not use a damaged battery with damaged, misformed, or uneven terminals due to the danger of poor contact and overheating.

I would have to think that it is more of a switch issue than brushes. If you remove one half of the handle do you see that the switch is burnt? But either way the current has to run thru it and if it runs when plugged in the contacts have welded shut to complete the circuit would be me guess. You can get a switch almost anywhere or go to Makitausa.com and order it direct. Let me know what happens please.

Inside there is a little plastic shaft, where the selector hooks to. They have had problems over the years stripping. Replacement part is still plastic. Yay! You may need a bearing puller or find some way to get the clutch off the shaft. Lemme know. Please rate me
